John Abraham’s life was under threat while filming Kabul Express

Recently John Abraham has been in the news for all the wrong reasons. First his bike accident where he injured his leg, the infamous ‘Rockstars’ concert where he had a fight with Salman Khan and then again rumours of his split with girlfriend Bipasha Basu . But the cool hunk has not let any of these negative events affect him and he is now looking forward to the release of his film Kabul Express. The film has been directed by documentary filmmaker Kabir Khan and also stars Arshad Warsi. Recently director Kabir confirmed that while they were shooting for the film in Kabul in Afghanistan John received a few death threats by the terrorist outfit Taliban.
Director Kabir says “Yes, the death threats to John were real and not just baseless rumours. We got to know about these threats through the intelligence. But the government was co-operative and provided tight security. We had about sixty armed guards on the sets and hence we could finish the film on time.” While John was shooting for the film he had also fallen very ill and had to be hospitalized in Mumbai. His family and girlfriend Bipasha Basu were extremely worried about these threats to his life. Nonetheless John took everything in his stride and completed shooting for the film.

Kabul Express is based on documentary filmmaker Kabir Khan’s personal experiences while shooting for docu-dramas in this war ravaged country. The film will be produced by Yash-Raj Films. Kabir says “I was not sure if Yash-Raj would want to do a film like this, however when Aditya Chopra read the script, he liked it.” The director has however not made any adjustments to incorporate commercial aspects; it has been shot as it was previously conceived by the director. Kabir Khan was adamant to shoot the film only in Afghanistan as he felt that the country was unique and could not be replicated.

Kabir claims that Indian films are very popular in Afghanistan but they were banned by the Taliban. Kabir claims that his film has been made with complete honesty and conviction. Kabul Express will also be screened at the Toronto International Film Festival .

John Abraham will also be seen in Vivek Agnihotri’s film ‘Goal’ where he will be seen enacting a soccer player. Incidentally John is a complete soccer buff and even went to Germany to catch the World Cup Football finals. Agnihotri had earlier approached Saif Ali Khan for this role, but he was unavailable. There are talks of Priyanka Chopra playing the lead opposite John in the film. John is also set to play a ‘Rockstar’ in a film directed by Imtiaz Ali .
