 Ashutosh Gowariker's film, Jodha Akbar is an epic film and a lot of research and hard work has gone into this film. However prior to the release of the film, there has been plenty of controversy surrounding the film as many feel that the film is not based on factual information. In Rajasthan, where Akbar once ruled, Jodha Akbar in all probability may not be screened in theatres out there as the Rajput Karni Sena are appealing for a boycott of the film.
The Rajput Karni Sena has demanded that the film be boycotted as they feel that factual information in the film has been distorted. Rajput organisations are upset over the portrayal of Rajput princess Jodha bai as Akbar's wife as they believe that she was Akbar's son, Jehangir's wife. They believe that the portrayal of Jodha Bai as Akbar's wife will hurt the sentiments of people and hence it should be boycotted. The Rajput Karni Sena has appealed for a peaceful boycott of the film but are willing to resort to violence if the film is screened in theatres. Karni Sena State President, Ajit Singh Mamdoli says, "We don't want any violence, but if any such situation emerges, the state government and the film producer and the administration will be entirely responsible." However due to an earlier petition filed, the Rajasthan High Court has earlier already directed the state administration to ensure that the film is screened peacefully in theatres in Rajasthan.
However theatre owners in Rajasthan, fearing a backlash of violence have decided not to screen Jodha Akbar, in spite of being assured protection by the police. Manager, Raj Mandir, Jaipur, Ashok Tanwar says, "We're not going to show the movie, we don't want to get into any dispute." However many people in Rajasthan are extremely disappointed that they will not be able to view Jodha Akbar. It is indeed ironical that the film may not be screened in the very own land where Akbar presided and resided.
Meanwhile Ashutosh Gowariker has also depicted a sensitive love making scene in Jodha Akbar between main protagonists Hrithik and Aishwarya which may not go down well with those already opposing the film.
