The love story of Mughal emperor Akbar and the Rajput Princess Jodhaa has turned out to be a story of frustration, anger and hatred in India. The maker of the film Ashutosh Gowariker during its making never thought that the film would create such a furor in India. According to the Rajputs, Ashutosh has exploited the authenticity of history by showing Jodhaa the better half of Akbar, whereas, Jodhaa is Akbar’s son Jahangir’s wife. To them the maker has oppressed Indian history by showing wrong facts. According to the Rajputs, Jodhaa Akbar has hurt the sentiments of millions of people who love the culture, history and traditions of India.
Indore, Gurgaon, Rajasthan, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, Patna, Maharastra and Uttar Pradesh are the main states where Jodhaa Akbar has been badly affected. Various theatres and multiplexes has been destroyed. The antagonist went to the extent of bombing multiplexes and wound many audiences who went with excitement and thrilled to see the years highest big-budget and lavish film Jodhaa Akbar. In Indore, eight people, including two women, were arrested for vandalizing a multiplex in a bid to protest controversial movie Jodhaa Akbar with a historical backdrop. Akhil Bharatiya Chatriya Mahasabha staged strident protests against Jodhaa Akbar in Uttar Pradesh, ranting anti-Jodhaa Akbar slogans, the mob demonstrated outside the Novelty Cinema hall. Jodhaa Akbar was released on the same day world-wide. In the overseas also it experienced some sort of disturbances from the NRI, belonging to Rajput community. To the Rajput society, Indian history has been distorted under the garb of magnificent production values and elaborate sets. The activist have burnt the posters and shouted slogans in air against Aishwarya for playing the role of Jodhabai in the film as well as against director Ashutosh Gowarikar for distorting factual significance. Amidst much protest, Ashutosh Gowariker’s magnum opus Jodhaa Akbar has seen the light of the day in February 15 in many places of India including overseas. The protesters wanted Ashutosh to change the script and ask sorry for his misdeeds. But none of those protests and agitations could move ace filmmaker of Lagaan and Swades Ashutosh Gowariker. He remained adhere to the plot of his film and discard all those charges against him as baseless and devoid of any truth. He even mentioned the names and authors of the book that he has referred before he zeroed on this gigantic project. Jodhaa Akbar is an outcome of 30% realism and 70% fantasy of Ashutosh Gowariker. Though the film has been claimed to destroy History, it is well viewed and well appreciated by the mass. Aishwarya and Hrithik playing Jodhaa Akbar have received huge accolades. War, blood and love between the Rajputs and the Mughals had brought alive on the celluloid. If the dark side is kept apart, Ashutosh Gowadiker and UTV is a recipient of great credits as they have showed their guts to unfold this vast history into silver screen.
