Jiah Khan committed suicide, not murdered: CBI to HC
On Monday, The Central Bureau of Investigation informed the Bombay High Court that late Bollywood actress Jiah Khan committed suicide and ruled out the possibility of murder or any foul play in the investigation.
"The CBI has no reason to protect the accused (actor Sooraj Pancholi) in the case," Additional Solicitor General Anil Singh told a division bench of Justice Naresh Patil and Justice Prakash Naik.
Hearing the report of the CBI, the High Court asked Jiah Khan’s mother Rabia Khan Khan’s to make a list of anomalies, if any, in the investigation, reported PTI. The court will decide on Rabia Khan’s plea on August 23 and continued its interim stay on the trial against Sooraj Pancholi, Jiah Khan’s boyfriend, who was accused of murdering the actress.
After extensive investigation, the CBI concluded that Khan committed "suicide by hanging". Rabia Khan’s claim that someone had entered the flat from an open window and killed her daughter and tied her to the fan was completed dispelled by the CBI. The agency said that there was no proof to show that someone could have entered the flat. The injury marks on Jiah's neck was that of the dupatta which she had used to hang herself.
Further ASG Singh also informed the court that they had consulted an expert from All India Institute of Medical Sciences and they also ruled out murder.
On June 3, 2013, Bollywood actress Jiah Khan was found hanging from a ceiling fan at her residence when her mother was sisters were away. On June 10, 2013, Jiah’s then boyfriend Sooraj Pancholi, son of Aditya Pancholi and Zarina Wahab was arrested on charge ob abetting the suicide. He was released on July 2, 2013, after the high court granted him bail.
The high court had transferred the case to the CBI after Rabia Khan claimed that her daughter was murdered, In December 2015, the CBI filed a chargesheet against Pancholi for abetting suicide. Rabia Khan then again moved the high court alleging the CBI had ignored few vital evidences.
