‘Jai Gangaajal’ co-producer files case against Prakash Jha for fraud
The co-producer of 'Jai Gangaajal' has accused director Prakash Jha of fraud and cheating, and has filed a police complaint against him. The crime drama starring Priyanka Chopra was co-produced by Prakash Jha and Milind Dabke of Play Entertainment.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Milind Dabke, CEO of Play Entertainment stated that they haven't received the master copy of ‘Jai Gangaajal’ as agreed in the Memorandum of Understanding with Praksh Jha. As such, the production house is suffering losses as are not able to execute any commercial deals or sell satellite rights to any TV channel in the absence of the original copy.
With regard to another deal with Prakash Jha Productions for the Arshad Warsi starrer ‘Fraud Saiyyan’, Play Entertainment further accused the filmmaker of suppressing information about the film’s music rights being handed over to some other company, though the agreement was to grant all copyrights to the company.
"Therefore, it clearly suggests that at the time of executing the MoU, the fact that music rights were sold to another company was intentionally suppressed," Dabke said in the statement.
Responding to the allegations, an official of Prakash Jha Productions claimed them to be baseless and the case was filed as a publicity gimmick. "They are trying to create a case which is not tenable at all. All this is being done for cheap publicity by using a big banner like ours. If they continue to unnecessarily harass us, we will have no other option but to file a harassment case against them," Sunil Agrawal, CEO of Prakash Jha Productions told reporters.
‘Jai Gangaajal’ is a sequel to the 2003 hit ‘Gangaajal’ starring Ajay Devgn in the lead. The film released in March this year and also features Prakash Jha in his acting debut, besides Manav Kaul and Ninad Kamat in important roles.
