Confirmed: Sonam Kapoor to romance Salman in Barjatya’s next
Finally, filmmaker Sooraj Barjatya has got the leading lady for his much awaited untitled film. He has confirmed Sonam Kapoor to play the female lead opposite Salman Khan. The Kapoor girl has confirmed the news saying, "I was in negotiations with Sooraj-ji for the last four months. We've finally worked out all the modalities. And, yes I am doing the film. I'll be getting into the film as soon as I finish shooting Arbaaz Khan's 'Dolly Ki Doli'," Sonam said.
Sonam Kapoor who is waiting for her next release, ‘Bewakoofiyaan’ opposite Ayushmaan Khurana is slowly and steadily firming her foot in Bollywood. It is heard that Barjatya would launch Sonam in the same typical mild and next door girl as he has done for his earlier heroines.
Sonam who was applauded for her performance in ‘Raanjhanaa’ is highly excited to take up the new challenge. "I've grown up watching Sooraj-ji's films. To be actually working in his film is a very exciting prospect for me. It's double exciting as I'll get to star with Salman Khan for the second time," said the 28-year-old.
Sonam debuted with Sanjay Leela Bhansali's ‘Saawariya’ which also stars Salman Khan in a pivotal role. She recalls her association with the superstar.
"People seem to remember that I was paired with Ranbir Kapoor in 'Saawariya'. They forget my character was actually in love with Salman's character. In fact, my character chose to go with Salman rather than Ranbir in the end. Salman and I had shot together for 'Saawariya' for 31 days," she said.
Before Sonam was officially signed, several names were tabled for the female lead which include Kareena Kapoor Khan, Katrina Kaif, Ilena D’Cruz, Anushka Sharma, Parineeti Chopra, Nargis Fakhri and Deepika Padukone.
Reports say that Salman has scheduled 160 days for the film. The film is likely to go to the floors in June this year and will release around Diwali in 2015. He will be seen in a double role.
Sooraj is said to be working on the script. The film centers on a young royalty where the lead actress will be seen as a princess. Sources close to the director said Sonam’s traditional looks made him prefer her.
A source said, “Sooraj loved Sonam’s performance in ‘Raanjhana’ and was looking forward to work with her. Now, with Salman, the new film is going to be a great opportunity for her to reach top position in the tinsel town. Unlike in films such as Ready and Jai Ho, the heroine will have a solid, soulful character in this Salman starrer”.A big, glitzy set is under construction at a studio and a major part of the film will be shot there.
