IT department drags Shahrukh to the court

The Income tax department has again dragged Bollywood actor Shahrukh Khan to the Bombay High Court. King Khan has been dragged to the court in relation to his foreign earnings as a brand ambassador of the Swiss luxury giant Omega. The department appealed against the December 2008 order of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT) which had allowed Shahrukh’s appeal over a tax deduction dispute.

Shahrukh Khan has announced a total of Rs 20 crores income including Rs 29 lakh as his foreign income which includes branding Omega in the year 2002-2003. Tax authorities claim that foreign expenses related to income needs to be calculated and under no circumstance, Shahrukh is eligible for tax deduction, said under section 80RR of Income Tax Act.

This is not the first case of tax against SRK. Previously also Shahrukh Khan was moved to court by the tax department claming that he owed Rs 19.43 lakh for the return he filed in 1998-99 and that too related to his foreign earnings from Jeanne Arthes Perfume.
