‘Iron Man 3’ ruins ‘Aashiqui 2’ box-office business

Aditya Roy Kapur and Shraddha Sharma’s Friday release ‘Aashiqui 2’ mints 5.75 crores in the opening day. The movie made a total of 11.75 crores in the opening weekend. The film has suffered due to the rage of Hollywood movie, ‘Iron Man 3’ which was released on the same day. Both the movies had bumper opening at the box-office and competition was almost neck to neck. 'Iron Man 3' was released  in over 1000 screens and the urban population has shown huge craze for the movie compared to 'Aashiqui 2'.

Trade experts feel that it will set a record for Hollywood films. On his Twitter page, Taran Adarsh writes "#Aashiqui2 and #IronMan3 are neck to neck. At some, A2 is leading, at some IM3. One of those rare Fridays when 2 films have opened well."

Compared to the metros, ‘Aashiqui 2’ has done well in small cities. In metros and multiplexes, ‘Iron Man 3’ ruled. In Mysore and Mumbai zone, the theatres showing 'Aashiqui 2' were full.

Despite receiving mixed review, Mohit Suri directed musical love story ‘Aashiqui 2’ is giving tough competition to same day release ‘Iron Man 3’. The movie was released in more than 2,800 screens.

“‘Aashiqui 2’ Delhi, Indore, Jaipur morning shows start with a bang! Even in mass-dominated centres, the start is superb," trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh said.

It is expected that the film would make a good total in the coming days.

‘Aashiqui 2’ would have done much better business if ‘Iron Man 3’ not have released in India on the same day. The on-going IPL is another factor for the less occupancy in theatres.
