Indian Superheroes on Silver screen
The super hero stories and comic books are very popular and are widely read by people of various ages all over the globe. This is aptly the reason why we have seen huge success of super hero movies in Hollywood. It seems that Bollywood too have geared up to address this craze by producing superhero movies that are answer to the Supermans, Spidermans and Batmans of Hollywood. Here is a look at some of the attempts by Bollywood to bring in the super heroes to the silver screen.
The movie that is going to be released this Diwali is the costliest ever Bollywood movie made till date. It has surpassed all records in terms of the promotional efforts and movie marketing strategies. The movie, in which Shahrukh Khan plays the super hero G-One and Arjun Rampal, plays the super villain Ra.One also boasts of other big stars like Kareena Kapoor and Rajnikant.
We know that the name sounds weird but the movie is worth a mention in this list because it was the first genuine attempt of bringing a super hero on Indian screens. The movie which was an answer to Hollywood’s Clark Kent, featured Puneet Hissar as the Indian Superman. Despite Puneet’s strong physique and bit awkwardly worn red underwear on his pants, the movie could not do much to match Hollywood standards.
This was an ambitious Bollywood project which boasted of superstar Amitabh Bacchan in the role of a super hero and a savior. The other star cast of the movie included Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia. But once again the effort to bring in an Indian superhero failed due to a loose script and lack of originality. One of the rare occasions when a Bacchan movie flopped at box office.
India got its first authentic and indigenous superhero in the form of “Krissh” played by Hrithik Roshan. The character was not a copy of any of the Hollywood superheroes and was an absolute original. The film received accolades by the audience and the critics and was a huge box office hit.
