Indian link with 2011 Toronto international film festival
The 2011 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) has declared the list of films that they have planned to screen in the festival. Amidst English films, TIFF has planned to showcase few Bollywood films. They have scheduled screening of films like 'The King's Speech' and 'Black Swan', last year, which went on to win Oscars.
Below mentioned are films from Bollywood that are selected from Indian Film industry:
Pankaj Kapoor has come up with his upcoming film “Mausam”. This is his first directorial debut. The film stars the leading actors, Sonam Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor. They will share the screen for the first time together.
Anurag Kashyap is ready with his new film “Michael”. This film is directed by the first time director, Ribhu Dasgupta. The film is a psychological drama. Talented actors Naseeruddin Shah is in the leading role. The TIFF will get a rare scope of watching this masterpiece from Kashap’s firm. After “Udaan” has been premiered at Cannes Film Festival audience are waiting eagerly for this film to be screened in the film festival.
Azhagarsamy's Horse :
Along with the Hindi Films, Tamil movie “Azhagarsamy's Horse” has also been selected for the festival. Directed by the successful director Suseenthiran the story of the film revolves around a missing horse. The film has already achieved praises from critics within the country. This honour is another feather in the cap.
This film is the Canadian version of the highly appreciated film “ Bend it Like Bekham”. Though the plot of the two films are similar the main difference remains in the sport. In the original it is football and here it is hockey. This Indo – Canadian film has been produced by the renowned Bollywood actors Akshay Kumar, Anupam Kher and Gurpreet Ghuggi. The film also stars actors like, comedian, Russel Peters, Rob Lowe and a cameo by Drake.
Chatrak (Mushrooms) :
Bengali film, Chatrak (Mushrooms) that has been directed by Singhalese director Vimukthi Jayasundara has also been selected to be screened in the film festival. It was first screened at the Cannes Directors' Fortnight this year. The film Chatrak (Mushrooms) is jointly produced by India and France.
Hollywood actor Freida Pinto who is from India, has acted in this film. This film is based on the famous novel 'Tess of the D'Urbevilles' by Thomas Hardy. British director Michael Winterbottom is directing this film. In this film Freida Pinto will be seen playing the role of a Rajasthani girl. This will be her second film after the success of 'Slumdog Millionaire'.
