Indian Idol Prashant Tamang wowing audiences in the US

Reigning Indian Idol Prashant Tamang is midway through a successful tour of the US, which started Dec 1.

After performing to packed houses in Washington DC and Boston, the 24-year-old Gurkha from Darjeeling is set to wow audiences with his Hindi and Nepali songs in New York City Dec 8 and in Atlanta the next day. The show at Manhattan's Jacob Javits Centre will also feature the R&B star Raghav.

At his first show in DC, a full house audience of over 1,000 asked Tamang for encores of "Yo Maan Ta Mero Nepali Ho".

The song was a hit the next evening at Boston too, where the audiences danced and sang along with him.

At both places the Kolkata policeman-turned-music star invited women audience to dance with him on stage as he sang a romantic Bollywood ballad.

Nepali pop icons also shared the stage with him even as Nepali community leaders felicitated him.

Tamang's US tour has been organised by Moonlight Records and PartyNepal.com.

In the wake of Tamang emerging winner of Indian Idol in September, an alleged insulting remark against him and Gurkhas by a RJ incited violence in Siliguri in West Bengal.
