India Couture Week: Deepika, Fawad turn showstoppers for Manish Malhotra
Bollywood beauty Deepika Padukone and Pakistani hunk Fawad Khan kicked off the India Couture Week on Wednesday, July 20, as the duo walked the ramp for designer Manish Malhotra. The ace designer showcased his collection ‘A Persian Story’ at the opening day of the five-day fashion extravaganza held at New Delhi’s Taj Palace Hotel.
Deepika and Fawad made for a stunning pair as they walked in traditional outfits with royal touch. The ‘Khubsoorat’ actor was dressed like a Persian prince in a long black jacket with a monogram and a maroon wrapped tunic beneath it. Deepika was dreamy in a long-tailed red lehenga with heavy golden embroidery and an off shoulder choli.
The duo sauntered down the ramp amidst loud cheers and whistles from the crowd.
Other models followed after the showstoppers as Persian music played in the background. The set was also designed to resemble Persian architecture, keeping in tune with the designer’s collection. The collection saw a wide range of heavily embellished lehengas, off shoulder gowns, long jackets, Anarkalis, sherwanis and sequinned dresses which featured elaborate architectural, floral motifs and check shirts and achkans. The colour palette moved from cream, gold, red, indigo, brown maroon, royal blue to yellow.
"I had Persian Story's idea in mind for so many years. I love Persian architecture, I like the colour schemes of Persia, music and that was a concept I had in my mind and that's how it got generated," Manish told reporters while talking about his inspiration for the line.
The first day of the event saw the presence of celebrities like Shabana Azmi and Sophie Chaudhary.
