Illeana to romance Akshay Kumar in ‘Gabbar’
South sensation Illeana D’Cruz who debuted in Bollywood with Anurag Basu’s ‘Barfi!’ has bagged another promising project. She has been roped by filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali for his next movie titled, ‘Gabbar’. Illeana D’Cruz will be paired opposite Akshay Kumar in the Hindi remake of Tamil blockbuster ‘Ramana’. The film will be directed by South director Krish. ‘Gabbar’ will mark Krish’s entry into Bollywood. Down south, he directed hit movies like Gamyam, 2008, and Vedam, 2010.
Confirming the news, Sanjay Leela Bhansali said, "We will be remaking Ramana. It's a beautiful film and I believe such cinema should reach our Hindi film-watching audience as well. We look to do justice to the subject and treatment and are extremely excited about the project."
A source informed, "Ileana started getting numerous film offers after being noticed for her role in Barfi!. Ramesh Taurani signed her for Raj Kumar Santoshi's Phata Poster... and now she has bagged Gabbar."
Akshay will start shooting for the movie after he completes filming Milan Luthria's Once Upon a Time in Mumbaai...Again and Ashwin Varde's Boss.
The source added, "Akshay and Ileana's chemistry will be interesting to watch. It is quite an unlikely pairing, which Bhansali is trying to explore. Akshay plays the lead role in the film where he fights against corruption."
‘Gabbar’ will bring back the hit combination of ‘Rowdy Rathore’, Sabina Khan, Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Akshay Kumar.
According to a source, "It's been a great year for Bhansali Productions — Ram Leela is eagerly awaited. Bhansali Productions now looks to taking its success benchmark several notches higher with Gabbar. The film which will go on the floor this year, will be co-produced by his close friend Shabinaa Khan, who was his partner in Rowdy Rathore."
Hope, Akshay and Ileana's chemistry rock at the box-office.
