IIFA preparations begin

The seventh annual IIFA (International Indian Film Academy) week is approaching and all the hectic preparations for the event have begun. The event will be held in a grand manner in Dubai from 14-17 June. Amitabh Bachchan has been associated with IIFA for quite some time and he is the global ambassador for them. Bollywood will turn up on a large scale for the event. There will be performances of song and dance.
The who’s who of bollywood from veteran actor Amitabh Bachchan to today’s actors like Akshay Kumar and Shahrukh Khan will dazzle one and all at the event. The event will also have world premieres and special movie screenings. The IIFA awards are nominated as per the results of voting by the film industry. The nominees for Best Film 2006 are Parineeta, Black, Iqbal, Page 3, Bunty aur Babli and No Entry. Ambassador of IIFA, Amitabh Bachchan said “IIFA is doing well not only in promoting Indian films abroad but also the concept of films. Also they manage to draw the entire film industry to the venue, which gives us a chance to interact with our colleagues and well-wishers in the industry.”

The four day extravaganza will be sponsored by Tiara, the billion dollar island lifestyle community. At the event 30 Indian commercial films, critical films and 5 short films will be showcased and for the first time South Indian films will also be screened alongside. The nominees for Best Actor at the IIFA 2006 Awards are Amitabh Bachchan for Black, Amitabh Bachchan for Sarkar, Saif Ali Khan for Parineeta, and Shahrukh Khan for Paheli. The Best Actress nominees are Konkana Sen for Page 3, Rani Mukherjee for Black, Preity Zinta for Salaam Namaste and Vidya Balan for Parineeta. There are various events which are spread out over the four days. On 14th June the main event is the IIFA World Premiere and Post Party, the next day 15th June witnesses the FICCI-IIFA Global Business Forum, the IIFA Film Festival, IIFA workshop and the IIFA Foundation Fashion Event. On the third day one of the most prestigious events that will be held is the IIFA Awards Presentation ceremony.

Producer-director Sanjay Gupta and actor Sanjay Dutt plan to launch five films at IIFA this year. Gupta says “I am launching five films at IFFA, but we are still in the process of deciding the projects that will be showcased at the occasion.” As the event draws closer, the excitement levels soar in anticipation. Many new performances will take place and the venue is being done up with state of the art technology. Here’s looking forward to the IIFA 2006 event.
