IIFA 2006 Awards Ceremony
IIFA 2006 awards were held at Dubai on 16 June. The night dazzled with the who’s who of bollywood. The stars attended the awards night in all their splendour. There were some scintillating performances by stars like Hrithik Roshan, Preity Zinta, Saif Ali Khan, Akshay Kumar and Himesh Reshammiya. The stage was resplendent and the entire choreography was done by Shamiak Davar.
There was a small skit put up by the stellar cast of the film, Black. Amitabh Bachchan, Ayesha Kapoor and Rani Mukherjee performed the act and Black also managed to walk away with most of the awards. Some of the awards included, Best Film Black, Best Director Sanjay Leela Bhansali for Black, Best actor Amitabh Bachchan for Black, Best Actress Rani Mukherjee for Black, Best Supporting Actress Ayesha Kapoor for Black, Best Supporting Actor Abhishek Bachchan for Sarkar, Best Villain Nana Patekar for Aparahan and Best Actor in a comic role Javed Jafferey for Salaam Namaste.
Other awards for music included, Best Music Shankar Ehsaan and Loy for Bunty aur Babli, Best Singer Male Himesh Reshammiya for Aashiq Banaya Aapne, Best Singer Female Alisha Chinai for Kajra Re and Best Lyrics Gulzar for Kajra Re. The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to O.P.Dutta and Asha Parekh. The Best Female Debut award was presented to Vidya Balan for Parineeta and Best Debut Male to Shiney Ahuja for Hazaron Khwahishen Aisi. Nagesh Kukunoor won Best story for his film Iqbal and Preity Zinta bagged the Idea Glamour Star of The Year Award.
Hollywood celebrity Jean-Claude Van Damme was present for the awards ceremony and was seen in the company of beautiful actresses Urmila Matondkar and Preity Zinta. The performances were quite spectacular and kept the temperatures in Dubai soaring. Saif Ali Khan paid a tribute to yesteryear actor Rishi Kapoor as he performed on a number of the actor’s hit songs while Preity Zinta performed on the famous Zeenat Aman number Laila Mein Laila. Himesh vowed the audiences by singing his first hit number Aashiq Banaya Aapne, while Akshay Kumar and Hrithik Roshan performed to their own songs.
Amitabh Bachchan was dressed in a dapper black suit as usual, Rani also opted for a black dress, Preity looked stunning in a vibrant sari, Vidya Balan also went the traditional way in a blood red sari. Arshad Warsi was seen in a long Nehru style black coat along with wife Mari Goretti who also opted for black. Urmila Matondkar was seen wearing a pretty white and gold western Indian outfit. Salman Khan was dressed in a simple suit with a blue shirt; Lara Dutta opted for a red dress while Shilpa Shetty sported a red Indian western outfit. Isha Koppikar was seen in a pretty purple sari.
There were a few glitches at the event. Rumours were abuzz that Preity Zinta did not have an up to the mark make up room, due to which the actress threw a tantrum before her performance. However it is said that Big B came to the organizers rescue as no room was available and offered his own make up room to Zinta. Well now that’s what we call a complete gentleman. Well on the whole the entire awards ceremony went off well and the stars are already back to work. The entire awards ceremony will be telecast on 25 June.
