Having pioneered the concept of superstar with his screen savvy ways and romantic aura, Rajesh Khanna’s is a persona steeped in the glitzy fold of charisma & elegance; charisma worth making women go week at their knees. In a career graph marked by extraordinary success and awe inspiring fan following, his has been a colorful journey through the glittering alleys of filmdom. Previously known as Jatin Khanna, the amazing star persona was born on the 29thof December five years prior to India’s independence in 1942.
Having been brought up by foster parents, Khanna attended St. Sebastian School located in Girgaun. His initial fondness for stage performance came to the surface during the all important formative years of schooling. With an established strength in the realm of stage and theater acting, Khanna decided to take a final plunge into the filmdom of Mumbai. Having won a talent hunt contest organized by the joint collaboration of United Productions, in addition to Filmfare; Khanna made a steady climb up the stairs of stardom.
With Jatin Khanna switching over to the celluloid name of Rajesh Khanna; ‘Aakhri Khat’ of Chetan Anand happened to be the launching pad of the spectacularly appealing superstar. Thereafter, ‘Raaz’ of Ravinder Dave had him essaying a stellar role opposite the female lead played by Babita. Despite creating ripples with films such as ‘Aurat’,’Ittefaq’ & ‘Baharon Ke Sapne’- it was “Aradhana” of Shakti Samanta which saw him shooting to phenomenal fame and national glory. Aradhana- the enchanting saga of romance and music not only projected the stylish performer in dual role but also confirmed the revival of Kishore Kumar- establishing him as R.K’s signature playback voice.
Fondly addressed as ‘Kaka’; Rajesh Khanna boasts of a unique record; an exclusive milestone that is yet to be surpassed by actor/actors of the succeeding generations. He happens to be the lone actor to have delivered fifteen successive super hits and that too as the lead protagonist. With the early seventies taking him to pinnacle of fame and glory; Rajesh Khanna happens to be the first performer to have contributed to the coinage of the concept of ‘superstar’. Possessing a trademark style of delineation and dialogue delivery; Kaka made a significant switchover from romantic genre to those which were socially inclined during the concluding phases of the seventies. Following the relatively unsuccessful days of the late seventies, Rajesh Khanna also made his presence felt in multi studded action oriented potboilers. Having married Dimple Kapadia way back in the early seventies, Rajesh Khanna happens to be the proud father of two loving daughter- Twinkle & Rinke.
