Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Mohenjo Daro’ to be screened at Locarno Film Festival
Hrithik Roshan and Pooja Hegde starrer much hyped film ‘Mohenjo Daro’ will be screened at the 69th Locarno Film Festival. The film fest will be held during August 3-13 at Lake Maggiore resort in south Switzerland.
Directed by National Award winning filmmaker Ashutosh Gowariker, the epic adventure-romance will be will be screened at the Piazza Grande, one of the finest open-air venues in the world, on the closing night of the festival.
“We are honoured and humbled that 'Mohenjo Daro' has been selected for screening at the closing night ceremony at Piazza Grande section of the prestigious festival. We are extremely thrilled that the film will be showcased to the European audience as part of the closing day gala," Disney India Vice-President (Studios) Amrita Pandey said in an official statement.
This is the second time that an Ashutosh Gowariker-directed film will be screened at the festival, one of Europe’s highly acclaimed and widely attended film festivals. Previously, Aamir Khan-starrer ‘Lagaan’ won the Prix du Public (Audience Award) at the 54th edition of the international film festival.
“I am extremely happy to know that the Locarno Film Festival has selected ‘Mohenjo Daro’. When ‘Lagaan’ was screened at the same Piazza on a giant screen, one of the biggest in the world, it was an out-of-the-world experience to see an audience of 8,000-plus of different nationalities, applaud the film. I am excitedly looking forward to Locarno this time,” Ashutosh said.
The movie is set in the pre-historic era of the Indus Valley Civilization dating back to 25th century BC. It is Ashutosh’s most ambitious project and is said to be his shortest film ever. It has been co-produced by UTV Motion Pictures and Ashutosh Gowariker Productions Pvt. Ltd. Oscar winning composer A R Rahman has given the music while noted lyricist Javed Akhtar has penned the songs.
Also starring Kabir Bedi, Arunodoy Singh, Manish Chaudhary, Suhasini Mulay, Nitish Bhradwaj and Narendra Jha among others, ‘Mohenjo Daro’ is slated to hit screens on August 12.
