Hollywood star Hugh Jackmanâ€™s Visit to India
The film and media conference of the 12th FICCI-Frames was lately held at Hotel Renaissance in Mumbai from March 23 to 25 this year. FICCI-Frames (Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry) is an event held annually and focuses on the business aspects and dealings of the media and entertainment industry.
The well known actor and super star of Hollywood, Hugh Jackman was invited to attend the occasion by Karan Johar. He may be remembered by many in India as the entertaining host on the night of the 2009 Oscar Award program when ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ had won several awards. The forty-three year old six-footer from Australia is well-known because of his role in the popular X-Men series as ‘Wolverine’.
Jackman’s visit to India was planned out and executed successfully by Fox Star India. At his arrival in Mumbai on his four-day visit to India, he was hosted by Shahrukh Khan. This was Jackman’s very first visit to India. Shahrukh Khan along with his wife, Gauri and his children, Aryan and Suhana are a huge fan of Hugh especially for Wolverine and the series X-Men. Shahrukh Khan has revealed that he has been promised a role in the next series of X-Men. The two actors discussed the difficulty of working as a super hero. Jackman confessed that he is very fond of Indian movies and that Australians are crazy about Bollywod films. He even showed interest in working in Bollywood.
Jackman is also famous for his leading roles in ‘Kate & Leopold’, ‘The Prestige and Australia’ and ‘Van Helsing’. He has also made a name for himself in stage musicals as a singer and a dancer. He exalted the Hollywood film industry by saying that the popularity of Hollywood movies is on the increase mentioning his movie ‘Australia’ and pointed out that the movie grossed USD 50 million in the USA and USD 200 million globally.
He was awarded the FICCI-Frames Excellence International Honor for his work in X-Men for his role as Wolverine. Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was also honored with the Decade of Global Achievement Honour for her outstanding accomplishments through the Hindi cinema. Aishwarya said she was humbled with the awesome honour given to her and acknowledged it with gratitude to the FICCI-Frames. Sharukh Khan won the Best Actor award for My Name Is Khan. Dabangg got two awards with Sonakshi Sinha as the Best Debutant in the film. Vidya Balan was rated the Best Actress for Ishqia. Ranveer Singh got the best Debutant Award for the film Band Baja Baraat.
Aishwarya Rai was chosen to give Hugh Jackman a small memento of appreciation. Hugh was not charmed by Aishwarya’s beauty and said that his wife was more beautiful than her. Yet, he seemed to be impressed by Vidya Balan.
Hugh Jackman shared the stage with Shahrukh Khan at the closing ceremony and his vibrant comments got the audience into fits of laughter. He even did some ‘latka-jhatka with Sharukh Khan and Vidya Balan to the tune of Hindi numbers.
