‘Holiday’ collects 40.03 crore in the opening weekend
Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha starrer ‘Holiday-A soldier is never off duty’ has collected a decent 40.03 crore in the opening weekend. Though the movie failed to do best like ‘Rowdy Rathore’, the film has been able to make a decent box-office collection. The breakup is Rs 12.18 cr on Fri, Rs 12.30 cr on Sat and Rs 15.55 cr on Sun, totalling to Rs 40.03 crore in the first weekend.
The film starts off slowly but caught momentum as days passed. The film has done well in Mumbai and in both single theatres and multiplexes.
Akshay Kumar starrer, ‘Rowdy Rathore’ earned Rs 48.3 crores nett from 2500
screens at the Indian Box Office in the first weekend
Released over 3500 screens across the world, ‘Holiday-A soldier is never off duty’ registered occupancy of about 35% and 40% in the morning shows across the country.
Positive words of mouth have little improved its performance in the evening shows. ‘Holiday: A Soldier Is Never Off Duty’ was highly promoted and secondly Akki, Sonakshi’s pairing always lured audience. Trade analysts predict that compared to ‘Filmistan’, ‘Holiday’ will do a good business at the box-office in the coming days.
Taran Adarsh writes, "Given the merits of the film, this A.R. Murugadoss-directed film should collect impressive numbers at single screens and plexes, both." The film took UAE box-office by storm and the film shows highest ever opening of Akshay’s film overseas.Released in 54 screens on June 5, ‘Holiday’ fared well in UAE. Taran Adarsh tweeted, "#Holiday - A Soldier Is Never Off Duty storms UAE-GCC. It's the HIGHEST *Thursday opening* ever for an Akshay Kumar starrer." He added, "#Holiday - A Soldier Is Never Off Duty overtakes #Housefull2 and #SinghIsKing Thursday numbers in UAE-GCC. Collects $ 226,000 [Rs 1.34 cr]." He added that Holiday collected more than Akki’s last outings, ‘Housefull 2’ and ‘Singh s King’.
Holiday is a remake of the 2012 Tamil film Thuppakki starring Vijay and Kajal Agarwal in lead roles which was also directed by A. R. Murugadoss. Akshay essays the role of an Army officer for which Akshay lost weight to fit in the role and worked really hard to look 12 years younger.
