'Heropanti' earns 21.28 crore in the opening weekend

After months of promotion and anticipation, ‘Heropanti’, the debut film of Tiger Shroff has finally hit the theaters this Friday. The earliest reviews has suggested that the film may not be very good overall but it succeeds in showcasing the talents of Tiger Shroff. Now the big question is, how much did the general audience liked the film and the debuting youngster? One must remember that ‘Heropanti’ has two very formidable foes at the box office, the Hollywood blockbuster ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ and the Rajinikanth starrer 3D magnum opus, ‘Kochadaiyaan. ’ One thing is for sure, ‘Heropanti’ must impress the audience to some extent in order to stay relevant.

The box office reports so far have been encouraging enough. From its release, till date the film has collected Rs. 20.73 Crore at the box office while the figure quoted by producer puts it at 21.28 Crore. The promising thing is that despite a little dip in the business on Saturday, ‘Heropanti’ made a comeback on Sunday by improving its collection. Not only that but it has managed to trail the ‘X-Men’ film although by a slight margin. Noted trade analyst Taran Adarsh had tweeted on Sunday morning, “#Heropanti Fri ? 6.63 cr, Sat 6.42 cr. Total: ? 13.05 nett. India biz. Biz expected to jump today [Sun].”  Taran was right in his assumption as the film went on to collect 8.14 Crore/ 8.28 Crore (Trade figure/ Producer figure) on Sunday, significantly more than its Saturday figure.

The Sabbir Khan directed film was riding on fairly good momentum before its release. There was a positive response from the audience to the songs and promos of the film. ‘Heropanti’ was given a large scale release in over 2000 screens across India. Many hoped that it would have a fantastic opening and dominate the box office. After the first day it was clear that the film has failed to meet the high expectations but it would not be a dud either.

The film is doing better in single screens than multiplexes. In North India the occupancy rate was a decent 50% while in South India it was lower at around 40%.  On Friday the film collected around 6.4 Crore while on Saturday it dipped a little to approx 6.19 Crore. But thanks to the good showing on Sunday, the film is well on its way to recover its 26 Crore budget.  The audience has liked Tiger Shroff in the film. Many are already labeling him as the next action hero.
