‘Gunday’ mints 43.95 crore in the opening weekend

Ranveer Singh, Arjun Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra starrer, ‘Gunday’ took the box-office with storm. The film hits the bulls eye and made an opening weekend collection of Rs 43.95 crore. Released worldwide on Valentine’s Day, the film received a mixed review from critics but still it could pull out well due to the stupendous performance of the trio.

The division is as follows, "Gunday Fri 16.12 cr, Sat 12.63 cr, Sun 15.18 cr. Total: Rs. 43.93 cr nett. India biz only. Excellent!" tweeted trade analyst Taran Adarsh.

As expected ‘Gunday’  has crossed 40 crore benchmark at the box-office. The film had 80% occupancy in theatres all over and it is assumed that this week too the film will be able to pull crowds to the theatres and continue to rule the box-office.

"Gunday landing cost: Rs. 50 cr [inclusive of P & A]. Chunk of the investment due from Satellite rights [Rs 20 cr to 25 cr]. Gunday balance investment to be recovered from India and Overseas theatrical, music and Home Video," Adarsh posted on Twitter.

The songs like Tuney Maari Entriyaan, ‘Asalam-e-Ishqum’ seem to have attracted the audience. Made on a budget of Rs.50 crore, ‘Gunday’ released over 2,000 screens across India.  The lead stars of the film, Priyanka, Ranveer and Arjun rejoice as ‘Gunday’ did well at the box-office. "Gunday has managed to draw crowd to cinema halls", says Gautam Dutta, chief operating officer, PVR Cinemas.

"It is one of the much-awaited films. The response is very good. The occupancy (over three days) was about 80 percent. The songs, genre and two young actors with Priyanka... everything is well taken up," said Dutta.

"We are positive about next weekend too," said Dutta. Megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who was present at the premiere of the film called it "an adrenaline-packed movie".
