‘Guddu Rangeela’ makers announce contest for free trip to Vaishno Devi Shrine

The controversial song ‘Mata ka email’ from the film Arsad Wasri and Amit Sadh starrer ‘Guddu Rangeela’ had upset a few religious groups, but the makers have decided to pacify them in an innovative way.

Rather than removing the song, a contest is being held where the winner will get an opportunity to visit the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine along with their family.

In a first of its kind that can be called a marketing strategy, the digital contest asks the audience to pose with their ‘Guddu Rangeela’ movie ticket and win a chance for a paid trip to the temple shrine at Katra in Jammu and Kashmir.

The lead actors of the film Arshad and Amit are singers in a small orchestra in Haryana. They sing in ‘Jagraatas’ and the song ‘Mata Ka email’ is a comic take which goes ‘Kal Raat Mata Ka Mujhe Email Aaya Hai, Mata Ne Mujhko Facebook Pe Bulaya Hai’.

The song written and composed by Subhash Kapoor who has also directed the film, has offended the religious sentiments of some people. They had burned posters of the film and demanded a ban on it.

The makers have also received emails and threat calls asking them to remove the song from the film or face dire consequences. They were also threatened of disruptions to the release of the film at the theatres.

Speaking about it, the director had said that the Censor Board has cleared the film and people should watch the film first and then say if there is anything truly objectionable.

‘Guddu Rangeela’ is set to release this Friday, July 3. It also stars Aditi Rao Hydari and Ronit Roy.
