Film financier Bharat Shah arrested
Film financier Bharat Shah was arrested by Mumbai police in a cheating case. The case dates back to 2000 and he is arrested for cheating a company named Vishal Chairs Limited of which he was one of the directors. The Silvassa chief judicial magistrate had issued a non-bailable warrant against Bharat. His advocate tried to get bail for him but his plea has been withdrawn by the magistrate.
The entire case is being handled by the Silvassa police as Vishal Chairs filed case against Shah to them. Malabar Hill senior inspector Iqbal Shaikh said: "We don't know what the case is as the entire investigation has been done by the Silvassa police. We have just executed the court's order.''
Bharat Shah has made a visit to jail number of times. Before releasing in 2003, he was in jail for several years. He was also behind bars for his alleged relations with underworld don Chota Shakeel.
Shah was guilty under section 118 of the Indian Penal Code.
After the judgment came in 2003 Shah had said before court, "I and my family continued to receive threats from the underworld since 1997. I have spent 14 months in jail already and suffered huge financial losses. Please give me justice."
