Eros pulls out of Ajay Devgn’s ‘Shivaay’ for over-budget
The upcoming film ‘Shivaay’ is Ajay Devgn’s most ambitious project and it was being jointly produced by Eros International, Pen India and Ajay Devgn Films (ADF). However, Eros has pulled out of the project after the film’s budget shot up.
According to a report in Mid-day, the actor-filmmaker had brought Eros on board for the project to help the action-thriller get more screens, considering the production and distribution company’s track record last year with 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan', 'Tanu Weds Manu Returns' and 'Bajirao Mastani'.
Quoting a source, the report stated that Eros was the first to agree to invest in the film. However, due to "cash flow issues," the production house signed a partnership pact with ADF and Pen India.
"'Shivaay' was pegged to be a Rs 70-crore film with Eros and Pen agreeing on a 50:50 investment plan. However, during shooting, 'Shivaay' was scaled up so as to not compromise on the final outcome. Eros was unwilling to shell out the extra money and ultimately, bowed out of the project," the source elaborated.
The movie will be now distributed in the country by Pen India and businessman Narendra Hirawat, while Reliance Entertainment will take care of the overseas chapter, producer Jayantilal Gada of Pen India said while confirming the news of Eros backing out.
"Besides, the music rights no longer belong to Eros Now. It is with T-Series. I wouldn't like to delve into why Eros is longer a part of the deal. I am just thrilled that we are on board with a project that will go down as a landmark film," Jayantilal told the tabloid.
‘Shivaay’, starring debutante Sayyeshaa Saigal and Polish actress Erika Kaar, is slated to release on October 28, the same day as Karan Johar's ‘Ae Dil Hai Mushkil’. Both the films are gearing up for a colossal box office clash and the makers are doing all they can to ensure maximum viewers for their respective films.
