Ek Tha Tiger sets the record of earning the fastest 100 crores

As per data provided by Yash Raj Films, ‘Ek tha Tiger’ has crossed the 100 crores mark in record five days. This is Salman’s fourth movie which has crossed 100 crores and is still counting. Also this is Salman’s fifth hit on the trot, which started with ‘Wanted’ in 2009.

If we look at the collection of his movies since ‘Wanted’, it would look like:

‘Wanted’ (2009) – 82 crores

Dabangg’ (2010)—142 crores

Ready’ (2011) --125 crores

Bodyguard’ (2011) – 146 crores.

As trade analyst Taran Adarsh had tweeted, “Ek Tha Tiger is @BeingSalmanKhan's 4th century (100 cr), the other three being Dabangg (147 crore), Ready (122 crore) and Bodyguard (148 crore).”

Apart from ‘Wanted’, all have entered the 100 crores club. That Salman Khan is a phenomenon is acknowledged by all, including Karan Johar, who said,” There is an actor, a superstar and a phenomenon. Salman Khan is a phenomenon. He is beyond the film; he's an event. He takes the meaning of iconic to another level, a tsunami whose waves encompass the audience in his power. Watching ETT in a single theatre with that audience is another phenomenon.”

It is also the first movie under YSF banner to cross 100 crores mark.

The movie was strategically released on Independence Day. Over the six day weekend which included Eid on Monday, has earned substantially. If the amount is broken down over the days, it earned: 32.92 crores on Wednesday, highest ever for an Indian movie on the first day.

14.5 crores: Thursday.

12.9 crores: Friday.

16.75 crores: Saturday.

On Sunday it collected 23.06 crores.

Adarsh tweeted, “India actuals Sun 23.06 cr. Total: 100.16 cr nett. SUPERB. Fastest 100 cr grosser ever - 5 days (Hindi films). NEW RECORD!” Though there was a downfall in business on Thursday and Friday, it picked up over the weekend. Trade analysts are thinking it will do a domestic business of more than 200 crores. Whether it can break the record of ‘3 Idiots’ haul of 300 crores is to be seen.

Overseas too the movie has fared well. It’s collection in USA is 8.25 crores , 6.79 crores in Unbited Arab Emirates , 4.75 crores in UK , 2.29 crores in Australia , 59.77 lakhs in New Zealand and 16.43 lakhs in Fiji .

‘Shirin Farhad ki to nikal pari’ releases next Friday. It is Farah Khan’s debut film as an actor. The movie is a light-comedy and supposedly not going to disturb the earning streak of ETT.
