‘Dhoom 3’ plans to block piracy by going digital

Dhoom 3’ is all geared up to block piracy. The multi-starrer movie which will release on 20th December has asked the cinema owners to go digital as the reel of the movie will not be available.

This is a big step from the scion of Yash Raj Films (YRF) and film maker Aditya Chopra. He has announced that his upcoming movie ‘Dhoom 3’ will be available only in digital format. That implies that the reels of the movie will not circulate across the country and even outside the country. This step will affect single screens as most of the single screens do not have provision of running movie through digital technology.

Many feel that such a drastic step can pull down the business of the movie, but Aditya Chopra is confident that the number of viewers visiting the theatre will make up for the losses.

A source said, “The message has been sent out that theatres must have either digital technology or UFO digital cinema if they want to screen D3. Release of movies through digital and UFO digital cinema prevents piracy as the prints are water-marked and finger-printed and can be traced back. It is believed that usually films are copied for piracy when the reels are being transported to theatres in the country and abroad.”

Through digital technology, en route piracy or copying of the reel will be blocked. The measure taken by YRF is also a cost saving tool as it will cut the cost of printing reels. Also, the copyrights are protected. This step will undoubtedly save crores of rupees which get drained out due to piracy. Movie piracy is a crime but still the business is thriving in India.

‘Dhoom 3’ is the third installment of ‘Dhoom’ series. The earlier ‘Dhoom’ series have remained popular among youths and bike lovers. This time Aamir Khan will play the role of antagonist along with Katrina Kaif. Abhishek Bachchan will continue to play the role of police officer along with his buddy Uday Chopra.

Aamir feels that his role in ‘Dhoom 3’ has been his toughest role despite the fact that the actor has played varied roles. He says, “I think ‘Dhoom 3’ is my toughest role so far. I have never played anything like this before. Every film is challenging, but this was a tough role. I had a great time working in the film.”
