'Dhoom 3' on record breaking spree, likely to cross 250 crore
The movie ‘Dhoom 3’ made news when it amassed 107.61 crore in the first three days following release. It crossed the highest grossers of the year, ‘Chennai Express’ and ‘Krrish 3’ and is expected to cross the 250 crore mark at the end of the week.
‘Dhoom 3’ is the third instalment of the ‘Dhoom’ franchise under the Yash Raj Films Banner. The franchise is known for high adrenaline action, bike stunts and visual treats. The third movie was even more promising as it had Mr. Perfectionist of Bollywood, Aamir Khan starring as the antagonist in it. The film, directed by Vijay Krishna Acharya also had Abhishek Bachchan, Uday Chopra and Katrina Kaif playing the lead characters.
The movie has done spectacularly at the box office. The film has been released in three different languages, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu in over 4000 screens in India and overseas. According to an official statement, the film earned Rs. 36.22 crore on the first day, Rs. 33.36 crore on Saturday and made Rs. 38.09 crore on Sunday. The movie is expected to lure more viewers during Christmas and New Year days as well.
According to rajesh Thadani of Multimedia Combines, ‘The movie is still doing good business. Dec 25 is Christmas, so the demand for the tickets is more. But the movie is doing well on weekdays too. It surely has the potential to cross Rs. 20 crore this week. ’ In fact, Space Cinemas Delhi has already booked 2000 tickets for the day of Christmas.
Punit Sahay of Space Cinemas said, ‘For 26th, we have sold 1500 tickets in advance booking. The schedule from Friday onwards will be released tomorrow (Tuesday), so the status of advance booking can be known then. But it is expected that the movie will earn Rs. 250 crore in the first two weeks.’
Gautam Dutta, COO, PVR cinemas said ‘The movie is expected to do good business this week with Christmas day that will be followed by a weekend. We’ve got Rs. 3.5 crore worth pre-booking.’
According to a representative of Satyam Cinemas, Chennai, ‘Since it’s the Christmas weekend, the film is expected to do equally good business. We have approximately about 10-15 shows over the next three days, including Monday. Tickets for half of the shows have already been sold out... We will only open bookings for this week’s releases on Wednesday. Therefore, until then ‘Dhoom 3’ is expected to continue its good run.’
