'Dhoom 3' is my film, maintains Abhishek Bachchan
Already, the buzz was that Abhishek Bachchan was being sidelined in the promotional events of the film while Aamir Khan and Katrina Kaif were invited and were present in every one of them. To this, questions arose whether Abhishek Bachchan was feeling left out. To this Abhishek said, ‘Why should I feel sidelined?..I am in the film, you can’t take me out. The audience doesn’t care whose film it is. Till date, one of the greatest films was ‘Amar Akbar Anthony’ where you had all the big heroes-dad, Vinod Khanna, Rishi Kapoor and others... it was everybody’s film.’
Abhishek had much to say about his and co-star Uday Chopra’s role in the film. ‘Pardon the immodesty, but Uday Chopra and I are Dhoom. The franchise chronicles the ongoing adventures of Jai and Ali, that’s me and Uday. That’s the format of the franchise. The other characters may come and go. But we go on forever. Like Batman and Robin. Can there be a Batman franchise without Batman,’ questions Abhishek.
In spite of everything, Abhishek has a lot of attachment towards the franchise and has a lot of positivity about it. ‘From ‘Dhoom’ to ’Dhoom 2’ and now to ‘Dhoom 3’, it has been an amazing journey. To begin with, it was the story of the adventures of these three boys, me, Uday and John Abraham... Yes, there are stars in the film. ‘Dhoom 2’ had Hrithik and Aishwarya. And now ‘Dhoom 3’ has Aamir and Katrina. But I think is a much larger than star cast.’
Abhishek added that ‘Dhoom’ was his first successful film and that he had made some wonderful friends through it. ‘When we started Dhoom nobody thought it will be this monster that it is today. At that time, we were trying something new. I remember that time Adi saying to redefine the action genre, let’s make it cool and make something young, have bikes and nice songs. Nobody knew that it is going to have a sequel.’
When discussing about the prominence being given to a few of the cast, in this case, Aamir Khan, Abhishek says’ ‘I think it matters from case to case. In a film like ‘Dhoom’ I think it doesn’t need any stars. You can have newcomers and it will do great.’
