'Dhoom 3' earns 36.22 crore in the opening day
Ready steady and Po, ‘Chennai Express’ and move aside to make way for ‘Dhoom 3’. The film ‘Dhoom 3’ has ridden on the bike craze and Aamir mania to break Shahrukh Khan’s film’s record of being the highest first day grosser at the box office of 2013. It is also the biggest opener for all time. 'Dhoom 3' earned 36.22 crores in the opening day which is biggest opener in Bollywood. The Hindi version of the film earned 33.42 crore and the Tamil and Telugu versions earned an additional 2.80 crore which sum up to Rs 36.2 crore on day one.
‘Dhoom 3’ released on December 20, 2013 in three languages Hindi, telugu and tamil was screened at approximately 4500 screens across the country and reportedly 820 screens overseas.. The excitement and hype created by the film with minimal marketing led to a high amount of advance ticket booking, registered 95-100% occupancy. Business improved in the later shows that day. The trailers, the Dhoom franchise popularity and the Aamir craze have contributed to making the film a success.
In CI, the film collected 1.17 crore net against 1.11 crore net of ‘Chennai Express’ In Rajasthan, the film collected an approximate of 2 crore net.
‘Chennai Express’ the biggest opener of all time had collected 33.12 crore net from 3500 screens from all three language versions of hindi, tamil and telugu on the first day of release. ‘Dhoom 3’ has managed to break the record, also going on beat ‘Krrish 3’.
Trade experts predict - ‘Dhoom 3’ has had a historic opening and has set a new record in Indian cinema. As per early trends, the film has netted 34 crore and assumedly more on its first day. It is expected to cross the Rs. 100 crore mark in the domestic market in three days.
The film has excelled overseas in foreign countries like USA, UAE, UK, New Zealand and Australia. Trade expert Taran Adarsh says – the film has raked in 247,783 pounds in UK, A$ 157207 in Australia and NZ$ 69162 in New Zealand on its opening day.
The real challenge for the movie although, will be its performance after the weekend, once the word of mouth and critics and viewer ratings come out. The critics have given mixed reviews on the film. If the film sails through in spite of everything, the film might make a phenomenal record at the box office.
