Dharmendra- A prolific entertainer
Dharmendra, with his phenomenal contribution to the genre of action entertainment- the much revered Dharmendra Singh Deol- popularly addressed as Dharmendra does not need separate introduction. Having etched his glorious imprint on the fiercely competitive domain of Bollywood- the iconic stalwart from the land of five rivers is one of the best epitomes of mass amusement.
With career spanning well beyond five decades and even more, the iconic entertainer Dharmendra was born on 8thDecember way back in 1935. Having spent his grooming years in and around Punjab; Dharmendra’s entry into the starlit domain of Bollywood was made with ‘Dil Bhi Tera Hum Bhi Terey’. Besides essaying romantic role, the prolific entertainer gradually became synonymous to the action oriented cast. Ranging from ‘Phool Aur Pathhar’ down to ‘Satykam’ or ‘Sholay’, Dharmendra proved true to his cast mesmerizing cine goers with his scintillating screen presence and powerful dialogue delivery.
Having made his debut during the black & white days of Hindi films, the powerful action actor left no stone unturned to make his presence felt sometimes back in the recent past. Following a long spell of separation, Dharamji’s punching presence was once again felt in flicks such as ‘Apne’ & ‘Life in a Metro’. ‘Apne’ had Dharmendra accompanying both his sons Sunny & Bobby Deol.
Boasting of a string of awards and accolades, Dharmendra was awarded with the highly prestigious ‘Filmfare Award’ for lifetime contribution to Hindi cinema in 2004. Endowed with striking feature and an enriched baritone, stars and starlets would vie sharing screen space with this illustrious star performer. Having worked with the raving beauties of his time, Dharmendra had his magical spell cast on the proverbial dream girl- the one & only Hema Malini. Ranging from Meena Kumari and Nutan down to Rekha & Jaya Bhaduri, Dharmendra lovingly referred as Dharam paaji, shared his screen moments with a bevy of beautiful women.
The glittering star performer from Punjab also had his stint in politics. In the general election conducted in 2004, he was chosen as an M.P. In course of his election campaign, one of his remarks related to the so called’basic etiquettes of democracy’ invited much flak and criticism. Known for his firm belief and conviction, Dharmendra has often been found questioning the safety standards of B town filmdom from the point of view of its female entertainers. Blessed with lovingly talented four children- each having made their marks in the realm of stardom; Dharmendra who had recently celebrated his seventy-sixth birthday still has lots to offer.
