Dhanush’s next Hindi film is remake of Mani Ratnam's 1988 hit

Kollywood superstar Dhanush who celebrated his 33rd birthday on Thursday, July 28, will be once again seen in a Bollywood movie. The ‘Maari’ actor had made his Hindi film debut with the 2013 hit romantic drama ‘Raanjhanaa’ opposite Sonam Kapoor.

Dhanush will be seen in the Hindi remake of Mani Ratnam’s 1988 Tamil film ‘Agni Natchathiram’ to be helmed by Bejoy Nambiar. The original was a great success and even received the Filmfare award for the Best Tamil Film that year.

"The film was originally planned with Vicky Kaushal and Harshvardhan Rane as the two leads. But now, in a coup of sorts, Bejoy has managed to get Dhanush, who will be replacing Vicky in the film. Dhanush will be playing the role that Karthik essayed in the original, while Harshvardhan will be playing Prabhu's role. The actresses are yet to be finalised," a leading daily quoted a source as saying.

Tollywood actor Harshvardhan has also made his Bollywood debut with ‘Sanam Teri Kasam’ opposite Pakistani actress Mawra Hocane, which released earlier this year. Before that, he had also worked in John Abraham’s ‘Satra Ko Shaadi’ which is unreleased.

It is said that Vicky, who is known for his critically acclaimed film ‘Masaan’, ‘Zubaan’ and the latest Nawazuddin Siddiqui starrer ‘Raman Raghav 2.0’, rejected the offer as he will be busy with other projects. The ‘Wazir’ maker plans to shoot the film from August to October, while Vicky’s upcoming project ‘Manmarziyan’ starring Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar in the lead is also set to go on floors in August.

However, there has been no confirmation on the news from Dhanush's side yet.

‘Agni Natchathiram’ was earlier too remade in Hindi as ‘Vansh’ starring Siddharth and Sudesh Berry and directed by Pappu Verma, but it turned out to be a major dud at the box office and went largely unnoticed.

Meanwhile, Dhanush whose song ‘Kolaveri Di’ was a rage, is awaiting the audio launch of the upcoming Telugu film ‘Thikka’ in which he has song the title track. He also has several other projects in his kitty like ‘Yennai Nokki Paayum Thotta’, ‘Vada Chennai’ and ‘Kodi’.
