Deepika turns designer for Van Heusen, walks the ramp
Bollywood style icon Deepika Padukone recently teamed up with Van Heusen to launch her own designer collection at a fashion show in Mumbai.
The 28-year-old star, who walked the ramp with 10 lucky fans in her own creation, stated on the occasion that she had not planned on doing such a thing before and that it was just a natural development.
She was quoted in the media saying, “I believe I have a particular sense of style and don’t like accessorizing much, and when this opportunity came about, I thought it was a fun thing to do more than anything else.”
She said adding that being a model gave one the opportunity to work with some of the talented people around the world and all these people have shaped her style at some point.
According to Deepika, Akshay Kumar is the best dressed man in the Hindi film industry, while veteran actress Rekha is her favourite among women, when it comes to dressing.
The actress has shared screen space with Akshay in ‘Chandni Chowk To China’, ‘Housefull’ and also ‘Desi Boyz’.
“The best dressed man (in the industry) is Akshay Kumar. It’s purely his effortlessness that makes him look the way he does. I think the fact that he has always been so athletic really adds to the way he carries off clothes,” the actress said while talking to media persons.
Deepika chose veteran actress Rekha as her top choice when it comes to dressing.
“She is someone who has always dressed the way she wants to. Trends have come and gone, but she stands by something she believes in and I appreciate that,” the actress said reportedly on the sidelines of the launch of a limited collection of Van Heusen designed by her.
Incidentally, the actress got caught in a war of words with contemporary actress Sonam Kapoor, when in a recent episode of Karan Johar’s chat show, Sonam took a dig at her rival’s fashion sense.
Reacting to the incident Deepika reportedly said, “I think she (Sonam) is entitled to an opinion and I respect it.”
The star went on to add what style meant to her and said, “Fashion, for me, is what I believe in, what suits my personality, what suits my body type and what I can carry off. It is not what people in the fashion world are dictating. It’s what I feel comfortable in. Wear your personality. It’s what I have said earlier as well.”
