Deepika, Shahrukh dazzle on the ramp as showstoppers
Bollywood designer Manish Malhotra brought a perfect end to the PCJ Delhi Couture by walking Deepika and Shahrukh as showstoppers on the finale of his show.
The show had an old world charm. It was set in 1930’s. Everything was affluent and classy. For the first time, the invitees were made to sit around ornate couches. There were beautifully decorated tables and chairs where the guests sat and enjoyed the show. The show had a wedding theme. Fragrance of rajnigandha and jasmine flowers took people in a nostalgic mood. The fabrics used for decoration were heavily embroidered.
The ramp and the costumes had a rich blend of Indian and British taste. Deepika looked stunningly beautiful in a heavy royal blue lehenga. Her lehenga had zardozi work with silver wires. It had a heavy over all work. Manish had teamed her lehenga with a flared full sleeved navy blue blouse. She had accessorized her costume with a heavy polki necklace. Her dark red lipstick complimented her bridal look. On the other hand, Shahrukh walked the ramp in a three piece black suit. The fabric of the suit was very rich. It oozed opulence.
Talking about his show, Manish said, “My idea was to make the stage resemble a very old world town hall. Very 1930's. I think this is how a couture show in the 1930's would have been like. It was very personal and that is how I wanted it to be like.” He also said, “I wanted a very clean show. The clothes were opulent and had the old world affluence. At the time of kings and viceroys, there were a lot of British influence on Indian clothes. That is what I tried to capture.”
Deepika was very excited about this show. She began her career with modeling and then shifted to acting. At the show, Deepika was seen in a jubilant mood. She said, “I felt like I was in a fashion show in Milan. Manish's show was of international standard. I have never seen such a sophisticated setting ever in the Indian fashion scenario till date. The atmosphere was so electrifying. I really loved the ambience that he created today.”
Manish has worked with Deepika in a number of movies. Manish said, “I have a very strong connection with Deepika. I have worked with her in ‘Om Shanti Om’, ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’, ‘Chennai Express’ and will be working with her in Farah Khan's next.”
further added, “I share a wonderful relationship with her. We do have disagreements
but eventually Deepika gives in. So far, her look in every film we have worked
together has managed to become big trends.”
