Deepika Padukone paid 8 crore for ‘Bajirao Mastani’
With Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s forthcoming project, ‘Bajirao Mastani’, Deepika Padukone has become the highest paid female star in Bollywood. Bhansali and Deepika sealed the deal with a whopping amount of Rs 8 crores. Deepika was in dilemma between Karan Johar’s ‘Shuddi’ and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ‘Bajirao Masatani’ but she opts for Sanjay’s film over Karan's 'Shuddhi' and signed 'Bajirao Mastani' with an whopping amount of 8 crores.
Other actresses like Sonam Kapoor, Katrina Kaif, Anushka Sharma, Priyanka Chopra, Sonakshi Sinha get somewhere around 4-5 crores, as per project. Deepika had five back-to-back hits last year and she has made the actress the reigning queen of Bollywood. Deepika Padukone worked with Sanjay Leela Bhansali in ‘Ram Leela’ and both share a great working relationship.
‘Bajirao Mastani’ is based on the love story of the Maratha general Peshwa Bajirao and his Muslim-origin wife Mastani, who faced the rage of the society due to their inter-religion love and marriage. Their marriage reportedly led to a crisis within the royal family.
Deepika will be seen opposite Ranveer Singh in the film and the actor has gone bald for the film. Aditya Pancholi has been signed to play the villain in ‘Bajirao Masatni’.
Bhansali planned to make ‘Bajirao Mastani’ for the past 15 years soon after the release of blockbuster ‘Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam’ with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Salman Khan but the project shelved due to the couple animosity.
Sanjay Leela Bhansali waited long to get the exes together again but things did not turn out positive and the duo never patched up. Bhansali doesn’t want the project to go without making and at one point of time, he even decided to make the film with Kareena Kapoor’s cousin Shivani Kapoor and Salman Khan but it also did not work out.Several names like Shahrukh Khan, Ajay Devgn and the latest Hrithik Roshan for the lead hero was tabled but finally the meaty project went to Ranveer Singh who had a great working rapport with Bhansali.
