Deepika Padukone is 10th highest-paid actresses of world
Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone has made her debut among the World’s Highest-Paid Actresses with earnings of 10 million dollars in the Forbes’ 2016 list. She and is the only Indian actress and sole newcomer on the list, the magazine reported on Tuesday.
Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence has topped the list for the second year in a row, followed by Melissa McCarthy and Scarlett Johansson as the runners up in that order.
Deepika who has notched the tenth spot, has "scored box office gold" in Bollywood movies such as 'Bajirao Mastani' and 'Piku', Forbes said. While she earns less than her Hollywood counterparts for roles, the actress "compensates with over a dozen lucrative endorsements” which “have helped her hedge against a deep pay gap in Bollywood," the report added.
The report also highlighted the gender discrimination in payment in Bollywood and noted that such a “discrepancy not uncommon in Hollywood.”
The report further stated that Deepika, who made her Bollywood debut with Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘Om Shanti Om’ has since starred in several films that have crossed the 150 million dollar or 100 crore mark–a barometer for box office success in India. The 30-year-old has also become something of a style icon, launching her own label ‘All About You’ for an online shopping site.
Deepika will be making her Hollywood debut with Vin Diesel starrer ‘xXx: Return of Xander Cage’ which is slated to hit theatres in January 2017. She will soon begin shooting for her next Bollywood venture ‘Padmavati’ to be directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Jennifer Aniston is ranked at number four, followed by Chinese actress Fan Bingbing at number five. A dual South African-American citizen Charlize Theron occupies sixth position, Amy Adams comes at seventh, while Julia Roberts and Mila Kunis were placed at eighth and ninth positions respectively.
