Deepika Padukone cancels ‘Padmavati’ shoot due to ill-health

The shooting of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ambitious film ‘Padmavati’ had to be called-off yet again, but this time it wasn’t due to any protests. Reportedly, the film’s lead actress has not been keeping well and has been advised complete rest for a few days.

Deepika has been suffering from severe neck and back pain for which she had to cancel the shoot. “She was suffering from acute pain when she arrived on set. Initially, she started reading her scenes and was going through her costumes. But as the day progressed, she started feeling more uncomfortable,” a source was quoted as saying by a popular publication.

The source added, “It was those heavy costumes that made her feel uncomfortable, and if she kept shooting in those costumes, then that would strain her neck even more. The doctor on set advised her to rest for the next few days and avoid exertion.”

Deepika will resume shooting for the period film from Monday, April 17.

‘Padmavati’ has been facing various hurdled even before it went on floors. Initially, there was news of a fall-out between the male leads Ranveer Singh and Shahid Kapoor. Thereafter, when the film began shooting at Jaigarh Fort in Rajasthan’s Jaipur, members of Karni Sena attacked Bhansali and vandalised the set damaging expensive equipment. Bhansali shifted the location to Kolhapur in Maharashtra, but there too, miscreants torched the set with petrol bombs, causing massive damage to props and costumes.

Protestors claimed that Bhansali has distorted historical facts in the movie and it insults the culture of the land.

Meanwhile, speculations were rife that the release date of the period drama has been postponed to next year, as the team was running behind scheduled. However, Viacom 18, which is one of the producers of ‘Padmavati’, has refuted the rumours in a statement saying that the film will release as per schedule on November 17, 2017.
