Not only is the” Indian Premier League” a great success in the field of commerce and business for these stars, it is also an important platform facilitating oodles of media attention, paparazzi and limelight.
Over the years Bollywood has been exceptionally successful in amalgamating with the IPL scene. The very recently held opening ceremony is a wonderful proof. Stars ranging from Prabhu Deva to Amitabh Bacchan, Priyanka Chopra and Kareena Kapoor were spotted on the heavily bling stage set up performing on one of their best song sequences for the real stars of IPL-the cricketers. Not only were these Bollywood big shots present here; Hollywood music scenario’s sweetheart Katy Perry was seen performing too. The enigma that was brought in by Katy and the bolly brigade was just phenomenal; it didn’t fail to elevate the evening in an extraordinary manner.
There are lots of stars in queue who are owners, supporters or profit-holders of the various cricket teams in the League.
For instance Shilpa Shetty happens to be the of co-owner of one of the best teams in the business- “Rajasthan Royals”.Shilpa owns the team along with her millionaire husband- Raj Kundra. The Rajasthan Royals made history by winning the IPL Trophy in the first season itself. Although luck hasn’t struck them for quite some time now, it is expected that they return to their winning streak in the approaching season.
Shah Rukh Khan has been proclaiming influence over Bollywood for years did not quite find success in the field of League Cricket. The actor of extraordinary talent owns “KolKata Knight Riders” along with the fresh blossom of Bollywood- Juhi Chawla. Even though the team has not been in the list of the best teams of the tournament, it is still expected of the Riders to show some magic on the field and transform the game to break the monotony.
Bollywood’s bubbly buttercup, Priety Zinta also has a team of her own-“King’s XI Punjab”. Priety like many of her colleagues in the business did not hesitate to step into this field of magnanimous glamour and cricket talents. Priety owns this team in partnership with Ness Wadia and the Dabur Group. Although Priety does not seem to be diverting her energies to the supposed amorous affair between Ness and her, she definitely seems deeply interested in the welfare of her cricket team. The champions from Punjab made it to the finals in the first season of the completion but just couldn’t strike gold. This time in the fifth edition of the series it is expected of them to return to the field with the same winning valor.
While other celebrities of the tinsel town fame do not own their personal cricket teams, they surely show their fantastic support and following for their favorite teams.
Take just for an instance, Rahul Bose who has a mixed ancestry of Bengali on one side and a fusion of Punjabi and Maharashtrian on the other claims to be a diehard fan of the “Mumbai Indians” and is often spotted cheering for his beloved team in the stadium itself. This enthusiasm definitely comes from being brought up in Mumbai. Abhishek Bachchcan is also a cricket fanatic and a follower of the “Mumbai Indians”.
Kunal Kohli the famed director and producer is also a unique cricket fan. He supports the talents of the “Kings XI Punjab”.
R. Madhavan the actor with an innocent sparkle in his eyes claims to be a devout follower of the IPL. Although he wishes all the teams the best hoping for a rib tickling competition, he alleges of being a full- fledged supporter of the “Chennai Super kings”. Supposedly he was quite disappointed by the fact that he was not appointed for being the brand emissary for the team.
Dia Mirza who is known for the charming purity in her face also is a cricket enthusiast. Born in Hyderabad and being living in Mumbai, this elegant princess does not seem to be having one particular choice in the way of favorites. She prefers to support both teams.
The Bollywood stars owning or supporting such IPL teams never forget the importance of publicity. Hence they leave no stone unturned in promoting their teams not only on television but also on the net, especially on the more recent social networking sites; this done to attract the masses towards the competition and increase the enigma of this spectacular nation-wide event.
