Congratulations Soumitra Da! says Big B

Bengali iconic actor Soumitra Chatterjee has been awarded with Dada Saheb Phalke Award for his remarkable career and wishes from every corner poured into his way. Among those who wished Soumitra for this prestigious achievement is megastar Amitabh Bachchan.

Big B sent out a congratulatory note to actor Soumitra Chatterjee, who was honored with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2012. "Soumitra Chatterjee gets the Dada Saheb Phalke Award... congratulations Soumitra da... such a magnificent journey in cinema," Amitabh tweeted.

Debuted with film, ‘Apur Sansar’ in 1959, Soumitra expressed his gratitude and thanked all those who cultivated his acting skill. "I would like to thank many old people of this industry like (legendary movie directors) Satyajit Ray and Tapanda," he said.

"Right now my mind is on a flashback mode. I would thank actors like Chabi Biswas and Tulsi Chakraborty. It would have been great if I could have handed the award to them. It is on their behalf that I will receive the honour," he said.

He featured in classic movies like "Sonar Kella", "Charulata", and "Ghare Baire".

Some of his famous movies are "Jhinder Bandi", "Koni", "Kaapurush", "Akash Kusum", "Aranyer Din Ratri", "Joy Baba Felunath", "Teen Bhubaner Pare", "Ganashatru" and "Sakah Prashakha".
