Comedian Kapil Sharma to debut in Yash Raj film

The host and producer of ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’, or the comedian star of television, Kapil Sharma, also known as entertainer of 2013, is looking forward to enter Bollywood with a bang. This famous household name in India and countries abroad is set to make a debut with a comedy thriller, ‘Bank Chor’.

According to sources, he has got a three-film contract with the youth wing of Yash Raj Films (YRF) which made the film, ‘Mere Dad Ki Maruti’, in 2013.

‘Bank Chor’ will be directed by Bumpy, creator of the hit reality show, ‘Roadies’. It will be produced by Ashish Patil and is expected to go to the cinemas in April this year.

"Kapil is one of the most exciting names in entertainment right now. He opens up a whole new space of films, brands and more for us. And audiences are going to get to see a whole new side of him in Bank Chor. We are thrilled to welcome him into the YRF jungle!,” said Patil, the Business and Creative Head, Youth Films at Yash Raj Films.

“Actors who appear regularly on the small screen do suffer from the issue of over-exposure. But Kapil will take forward his comic timing and will be perfect as the idiotic thief,” he says.

Kapil is said to have already begun to work on the character of the film, where he, along with his three friends, plans to rob a bank. They choose a wrong day and get caught.

“It is a privilege and a dream to be part of the YRF family and have my launch with their Youth Films Studio, Y-Films,” Kapil said.

“The script is the exciting part and the role is unlike stereotypical comedy roles. It will give me a chance to avoid getting typecast as an actor. The role is challenging and I have already started working on the nuances of the character,” Kapil says.

“I have always loved comedy thrillers and we hope to elevate the genre. I did serious acting as a theatre artiste before moving to comedy. Finally, YRF has offered me something that is the perfect combination of serious acting and comedy which will surprise my fans,” he adds.

According to channel sources, Kapil’s debut in the film industry will not affect his dates with ‘Comedy Nights With Kapil’ since he plans to continue with the show.
