Shahrukh keeping fingers crossed for 'Chennai Express'

‘Chennai Express’ is a Hindi movie starring Shahrukh Khan and Deepika Padukone in the lead roles. The movie is directed by Rohit Shetty and is produced jointly by Gauri Khan, Ronnie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapur. The movie is releasing on 8th August.

‘Chennai Express’ is a complete family entertainer movie. It has romance, drama, action and comedy in it. The movie is about a young man who travels from Mumbai to Rameshwaram and he falls for the daughter of a local don. Shahrukh plays the role of the young man and is portrayed as a north Indian man. His character name is Rahul. Deepika is a Tamilian girl whose character name is Meena Lochni.

This is the second movie which sees ‘Shahrukh –Deepika’ pairing. That worked together for the first time, five years ago, in ‘Om Shanti Om’. The movie turned out to be a hit. After that, a number of directors wanted to cast Shahrukh and Deepika together. But, both of them consciously waited for the right script. According to Deepika, “Rohit Shetty's 'Chennai Express' was given a nod, that was only because much like 'Om Shanti Om', this film too offers an interesting blend of romance, drama and comedy. All in all, it is a complete family entertainer. I want people to love and enjoy the film.”

The movie went on floor in October last year. The filming began at Mehboob studio in Mumbai. The shooting has taken place in various parts of India like Goa, Munnar, Panchgani and Hyderabad. Outside India, shooting also took place in Jakarta.

Deepika Padukone, who is playing the role of a south Indian girl, had to learn south Indian accent. She watched a number of south Indian movies to perfect her accent. Deepika says, “Honestly, doing justice to the role wasn't difficult. Since I'm from South India, there weren't any problems in adapting to the culture. I'm familiar with the cultural practices, behavioral patterns and the mannerisms. But getting the accent right was difficult. It was only after I watched a few videos that I could understand the language. And in the next three to four days I realised it would happen perfectly.”

The movie went for heavy promotions all over the country. The lead stars appeared on small screen in a reality show to promote their movie. They also walked the ramp together at PCJ Delhi Couture Week. Recently, Shahrukh also launched a mobile app game based on this movie. Backed with heavy promotions and hit star casts, the movie is releasing on Thursday, with a lot of expectations.
