Chandni Chowk to China full of Remixes: Sameer
"Success is not measured by what you accomplish but by the opposition you have encountered, and the courage with which you have maintained the struggle against overwhelming odds." Sameer had to go through his share of toil and hardship to achieve his position. He learnt from his legendry father that nothing succeeds like success in the film industry and once the ball is set in motion, there is no stopping it. Now we all can see that ball is spinning around the Indian film industry. Sameer has worked with the maximum number of music directors and whatever his critics said; he proved his excellence in work. His melodious words in Ashiqui created the biggest impact on the hearts of listeners. After that, Sameer firmly established himself as the first choice of music directors. After the recent triumph in his professional life, Sameer seems to have reached an elevation in his career. To reach a great height a person needs to have great depth of thoughts. We had a tete-a-tete with Sameer regarding his forthcoming projects.
You have signed five films with Nikhil Advani? Tell us about their films?
I met Nikhil Advani when he was assisting Karan Johar. I did Salaam-e-Ishq for Nikhil and the music did really well. Then he gave me the offer to write for his next film Chandni Chowk to China, but I refused because most of the songs were remixes. He has signed me for five of his forthcoming films. This kind of deal has never happened with any lyricist before. It's only because of our good rapport that we have signed all these films
It is a rumor or truth that you are writing the songs for Tulsi kumar’s album without charging anything?
Gulshan kumar was just like my brother and his daughter is just like family member and I am turning my promise into a commitment by composing songs for Tulsi’s upcoming album. It’s just like a family affair.
Tell us something more about this album?
I am writing the songs for Tulsi Kumar’s new album, I had promised to Gulshan Kumar that I will assist his daughter when she will come up with her new album. The album is having mostly romantic songs as today’s trend is shifting towards romantic songs. She is an excellent singer and her album is expected to be released in August.
Elaborate a little on the Sameer’s success formula?
Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life - think of it, dream of it, and live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body, be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. The success is hard work and faith. Faith is the only power that makes me become a successful songwriter. The greatest barrier to success is the fear of failure. So never think about failures and just live on life positively.
What are your future projects?
For Himesh, I'm doing Karzzz, Mahesh Bhatt's Kajra Re, John Mathew Mathan's A Love Story, Satish Kaushik's Gujju Bhai and also Mud Mud Ke Na Dekh. I am also writing lyrics for Milenge Milenge, Housefull, Golmaal Returns and two films by Vashu Bhagnani. My recent films for which I penned the lyrics include Mere Baap Pehle Aap and Apoorva Lakhia's Mission Istanbul.
From where do you get the inspiration to write such soulful songs?
The role of a lyricist is not to say what we all can say, but what we are unable to say. So I try and transform expressions of my life into my writing. According to me pain has to be first felt to be able to express it, I draw inspiration from my practical life. When I wrote songs for the film ‘Traffic Signal’ then I draw inspiration from those children who work near the traffic signal. Today is the most creative time, as I m doing fewer but quality oriented movies.
How do you see the growing competition in Bollywood?
Main pal do pal ka shayar hoon pal do pal meri kahani hai……….The scenario of lyrics writing too is evolving but the basic format of simplicity of lyrics never changes. As long as the writings are fresh I don’t see any competitions between the other lyricists present in Indian film Industry. Everybody present here pen down their own thoughts and feelings, so only the words can be copied thoughts can not be copied. Fill your paper with the breathings of your heart. No matter what you write it always has to be from the heart. So whatever you do, do with all your might.
Though Sameer gets his inspiration from his life experiences but he is surely an Inspiration for young budding writers.
