Now-a-days boys and girls first start dating each other, fall in love and then decide to tie the knot and bring their respective parents and families into the picture. But, arranged marriages is not a passé. There are a lot of celebrities who have taken the ‘traditional arranged marriage’ route and eventually found love in their life partners.
After having affairs with Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra, Bollywood actor Shahid Kapoor finally settled for an arranged marriage with Mira Rajput and has found love in her. They reportedly, met through a spiritual group Radha Soami Satsang Beas, of which both the families are followers. They tied the knot in a private traditional ceremony on July 7, 2015, followed by a grand reception at The Oberoi Hotel in Gurgaon. The couple is now all set to welcome their first child.
The diva with the million-dollar smile, Madhuri Dixit, also took the arranged marriage route. She got married to cardiac surgeon Dr. Shriram Nene in 1999 after their horoscopes were matched. The couple was reportedly introduced by Madhuri’s brother Ajay Dixit when she visited him in the US. The wedding and reception was held in Mumbai, after which the actress left for the States with her hubby. The couple is blessed with two kids - Arin and Rayaan. They returned to India after a decade in 2011 and Madhuri made a come-back to films with ‘Aaja Nachle’.
Vivek Oberoi, who was in a relationship with Aishwarya Rai, ultimately settled for an arranged marriage with Priyanka Alva, daughter of late Karnataka minister Jeevaraj Alva and classical dancer Nandini Alva. In an interview before his marriage, Vivek was quoted as saying, “I don't mind an arranged marriage. The girl my parents choose could be the girl of my dreams.” Even Priyanka’s mother and the ‘Masti’ actor’s mother-in-law had said, “It is an arranged marriage and we are very happy." The grand wedding took place in Bangalore in October 2010 and was attended by a mix of Bollywood celebrities and political leaders. The couple has a three-year-old son Vivaan Veer and daughter Ameyaa Nirvana born on April 21, 2015.
Nikitin Dheer who gained popularity as ‘Thangabali’ in Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘Chennai Express’, found love in his wife Kratika Sengar. The couple had and arranged marriage in September 2014. Nikitin’s father veteran actor Pankaj Dheer was instrumental behind his marriage. Pankaj met the ‘Jhansi Ki Rani’ and ‘Punar Vivah’ actress during the shooting of his debut film ‘My Father GodFather’. He liked Kratika and approached her parents. Nikitin and Kritika eventually ended up meeting each other and even falling in love. “It’s an arranged-cum-love marriage,” Kratika said. Nikitin is currently seen on TV show ‘Nagarjuna...Ek Yoddha’, while Kratika features in ‘Kasam’.
Popular TV actor Karan Patel, after being in a relationship with Kamya Punjabi, he tied the knot with Ankita Bhargava, with months after breaking up with Kamya. Their marriage can be called a modern twist to arranged marriage. The duo met at a Holi party thrown by Ankita’s father Abhay Bhargava who plays the role of Karan’s on-screen father-in-law in 'Yeh Hain Mohabbatein'. Ankita and Karan liked each other at the party and within days told their parents about their wish to get married to each other. The couple got married in a lavish ceremony in May, 2015 and Karan’s reel father-in-law became his real father-in-law.
Jay Soni who shot to fame with his role in the popular series ‘Sasural Genda Phool’ opted for an arranged marriage and tied the knot with footwear designer Pooja Shah who was chosen by his mother. The couple got engaged in October 2013 and tied the knot in February 2014. “Our parents set-up this meeting but once we spent some time together it felt like I have known her for years. Even though it’s an arranged marriage, I am completely in love with her,” Jai was quoted as saying in an interview. The couple also participated in celebrity couple dance show ‘Nach Baliye 7’.
Tamil film star Dhanush who became a national sensation with his famous song ‘Why This Kolaveri Di’ followed by a steller performance in Bollywood film ‘Raanjhnaa’ is married to Aishwarya, elder daughter of megastar Rajinikanth. He himself is the son of well-known Tamil filmmaker Kasthuri Raja. They got married in a grand traditional Tamil ceremony in November 2004 at Rajinikanth’s Poes Garden residence. Although, there were rumours about an affair between the duo, Dhanush refuted them consistently and said that it was an arranged marriage. “She (Aishwarya) was my sister's friend. At one point, both our parents decided to put an end to all rumours and met each other. They suddenly decided to make the rumours true. That resulted in our marriage," Dhanush was quoted as saying.
