Brawn rules at box office
Half of this year is still left, yet the number of hits at the box office have been far greater in number than any other year. More than the films, though, it was the actors who have truly outdone themselves in their new avatars.
Critics have been complaining that this Khan has been playing himself for a long time now. However his last film, Ready, grossed the highest in the box office on its opening day. Except for the ‘dhinka chika’ number, the only other memorable thing about Ready was Salman Khan himself! The movie had a storyline that had nothing to write home about. Khan alone stole the show, and was its one-man cheering section
2.Imran Khan/Vir Das/Kunal Roy Kapoor:
Bollywood’s signature style of song and dance, and along with the colorful costumes and the rain sequences, are all taking a backseat thanks to coming of age cinemas, like Delhi Belly. Imran Khan finally manages to break out of his sweet, goody-two shoes image, which had got him noticed in Jaane Tu…Ya Jaane Na. Along with Vir Dar and Kunal Roy Kapoor, the junior Khan has again taken the Bollywood world by storm.
The maker of the first Hindi film of male bonding stars in another: Farhan Akhtar’s Dil Chhata Hai had created waves amongst the audience. Now it is the turn of the Roshan-Deol-Akhtar trio to portray three mature men, who need to overcome their personal fears and fulfill their dreams. Remarkable performance by all three.
Surprise! Surprise! It was Ajay Devgan starrer “Singham” that came close to the heels of Ready, in terms of the opening day at the box office. Devgan as the feisty cop reclaimed his original position of Bollywood’s action hero.
‘Shaitan’ saw the metamorphosis of K-serial hero, Khandelwal, from a small screen husband to a cop! Rajeev does an amazing job as the conflicted cop. His performance has been greatly appreciated; for he makes use of his full potential as an actor.
6. R. Madhavan:
Another dud from Bollywood, Tanu weds Manu, only had one good thing about it: Madhavan. Though still playing a stereotype, Madhavan doesn’t fail to impress you as a NRI doctor who falls for the girl his parents have arranged for him to marry!
The actors, Aamir Khan, Shah Ruk Khan, and Akshay Kumar, are missing from the list. But that is possibly because the year isn’t over yet!
