Box-office: Sonakshi Sinha’s ‘Akira’ off to a slow start

Sonakshi Sinha starrer ‘Akira’, directed by A R Murugadoss failed to impress the audience. The film off to a slow start and earned around 6 crore in the opening day. The film registered an occupancy of 15-20 percent in the morning shows. Though audience appreciated the performance of Anurag Kashyap and Sonakshi Sinha, they are showing least interest for the film. 

It is a woman-centric film and Sonakshi carried the film in her own shoulder. Her effort was appreciated but the plot line failed to impress the audience. Sonakshi is the USP of the film, she showed some dare-devil stunts.

It is speculated that Bharat Bandh might have affected ‘Akira’ first day box-office collection. The morning shows registered a very poor occupancy but gradually in the evening the collection increased. Despite having released in 2,300 screens, ‘Akira’ failed to pull audience to the theatres.

‘Akira’ received mixed reviews from the audience and the critics. The positive words of mouth might do some wonder for the film in the coming days. It is too early to say that ‘Akira’ doomed at the box-office, hopefully the numbers might go up in the coming days.

Talking aout the overseas business of the film, ‘Akira’ has collected Rs.9 crore ($139,0000) in United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Gulf regions.

A gripping action thriller ‘Akira’ is all about a college girl Akira played by Sonakshi Sinha whose life spirals out of control when she becomes unwittingly involved in a crime involving a dead businessman, four corrupt police officers and a former dance bar hostess.

Produced and directed by A.R.Murugadoss, the movie stars Sonakshi Sinha as the leading actress. The movie also has Konkona Sen Sharma, Anurag Kashyap and Amit Sadh in the supporting roles. 

The music of the film is given by Vishal-Shekhar.
