Salman Khan confused about 'Jai Ho' box-office record

Salman Khan’s ‘Jai Ho’ which was released on 24th January has got a mixed response at the box office. Salman Khan is confused over the response at the theaters and at the box office as he feels the two figures are not matching up.

‘Jai Ho’ was one of the most hyped movies of the year. Salman Khan was making an appearance on the silver screen after 13 months. Since, Salman’s fans had to wait for long for his movies, everyone expected a huge response. But the box office figures tell a different story. The film barely did a business of Rs. 61 crores on the opening weekend.

Salman said, “This time we are also confused because the reactions inside the theatres and the collections are not matching up. So it's a very strange thing.”

Salman feels that their effort of putting a different kind of movie was not appreciated by the audience. ‘Jai Ho’ was a serious movie with a strong message. Before the release, Salman was highly optimistic of the business of the movie. Salman later said, “We have done something different, may be people were expecting something like Dabangg, Ready like time pass film to enjoy. Some must have understood that Jai Ho is not that kind of film, this is a serious film with a social message.”

The 48 years old Dabangg Khan feels that he is sole responsible for the debacle of the movie. He does not blame anyone else for the failure of ‘Jai Ho’. Salman said, “I will only say that the credit or the blame for my film should come to me and not to anybody else. Perhaps I have failed in bringing in the people”, he said.

The movie was directed by Sohail Khan and was produced by Eros International and Sohail Khan Productionz. The movie was released across 5000 screens all over the world. The movie collected Rs. 101.2 crores worldwide in its opening weekend. In this, Rs. 60 crores were collected from domestic market and rest were collected from all over the world.

Despite a low pick up, Nandu Ahuja, Senior vice-president, India Theatrical, Eros International Media Limited said, “Salman fans have given a huge thumbs up to ‘Jai Ho’. The film is packed with Salman style action along with the emotion and message of the human chain of goodness and it has touched the right chord with his fans. This is an outstanding opening and his highest where we didn't have the added advantage of a long weekend.”
