Box-office Race: Rustom dethrones Mohenjo Daro on Day 1

Friday was the clashes of the two big films, Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Rustom’ and Hrithik Roshan’s periodic drama ‘Mohenjo Daro’. Both the movies are of different genres but since both released on the same day, competition is bound to happen. The predict of the trade analysts say ‘Rustom’ is head of ‘Mohenjo Daro’ in the box-office race.

Audience are showing more interest on ‘Rustom’ than Ashutosh Goawaiker’s ‘Monhejo Daro’.

'Rustom' is leading... It is performing better than "Mohenjo Daro". It got decent reviews and people are liking this film more. 'Mohenjo Daro' did not seem to be appealing to the audience, while there was curiosity and hype around 'Rustom'," film distributor Rajesh Thadani told .

According to Thandani, ‘Rustom’ is expected to earn around Rs 12-13 crore mark on the opening day while ‘Mohenjo Daro’ might end up collecting only seven to eight crores on day one.

"There is a holiday period ahead and it seems both the films will benefit from it. I think over the weekend 'Rustom' should do Rs 40 crore and 'Mohenjo Daro' will do Rs 20-25 crore," he added.

Distributor Akshay Rathi says ‘Rustom’ will register an opening day occupancy of around 45-50 per cent and Hrithik-Pooja Hegde's movie might register and opening day occupancy of around 35 per cent.

Distributor Akshay Rathi informs, "Number of screens for 'Mohenjo Daro' are higher than that of 'Rustom,' but the average occupancy is lower. It's like there are 100 people who want to watch both the films, but 'Mohenjo Daro' is playing at 150 screens while 'Rustom' is at 100. That way the occupancy is better for 'Rustom'."

Another trade analyst Komal Nahata says, "I see Rustom amassing Rs 13-15 crore but Mohenjo Daro will collect around Rs 6-7 crore. Mohenjo Daro will go down as one of the biggest disasters in history, but Rustom is a 100 crore film."

Rahul Kamble from PVR Icon (AndherI) says, "We are expecting better results for Mohenjo Daro towards the night shows, but so far it has got us only 25 per cent occupancy. On the other hand, Rustom has got us 45 per cent occupancy. So yeah, people are opting for Rustom on Day 1. But I am sure that they will see Mohenjo Daro too once they're done with Rustom."

Hope, in the coming days, 'Mohenjo Daro' picks up good number compared to 'Rustom'.
