India steps into 61 years of Independence but it is yet to fade away poverty and terrorism. Common men have the least power, money and energy to fight against all those odd factors but Bollywood celebrities do have that power and capacity. They for show-off or from the call of their heart render some social service for the betterment of the country. Unlike before, more and more Bollywood stars are coming forward to fight against scarcity of food, cloth and shelter. Whenever any danger hangs over the head of the country, Bollywood stars come forward with full force to rescue the nation from any sort of evil.
Hit Bollywood stars some way or the other associate with some organizations. They frequently donate money to run the organization that they support. Some stars make a public display of the work that they render while some prefers to keep it under warp. Perfectionist Aamir Khan speaks his mind and always come forward to support the underprivileged, physically challenged and spastic children. He joined the Narmada Bachao Andolan for the upliftment of the society. While the entire world is divided into two for holding Olympic Games in Beijing, Aamir Khan has been chosen as a torch bearer and run with the mashal in favor of the game. Joining them was his colleague Saif Ali Khan. Aamir does what his conscience says and in a best possible ways tries to provide his service to the nation. He also supported the victims of the Bhopal Gas Tragedy.
The name that requires special mention is Amitabh Bachchan. He has a big heart for any social cause. He has been in the entertainment industry for more than 40 years and closely associate with many social organizations. The social work that he renders is immeasurable. He is closely connected with many hospitals and Ashrams. He helps underprivileged with money and love. Some of his noble deeds are highlighted in media while some remains under cover. He has been emerged as the top celebrity with the most endorsements for social causes on television. According to a study conducted by media research group AdEx, out of 22 celebrities who were a part of social advertisements on television during January-June 2007, Bachchan had the maximum number of endorsements. Be it Pulse Polio or Asian Conservation Awareness, Big B was seen in the television promoting a cause.
Tsunami that hit the nation years back still remained as a nightmare. Thousands of people became homeless and rescue party seemed unlimited. At this crisis period, Bollywood stars landed their full support. One among them was Dino Morea. He rendered his service as much as he can. There are many Bollywood actresses that support PETA. Among them are Sheryln Chopra and Bipasha Basu. Sheryln shoots for PETA in lingerie.
Another notable social activist is Anupam Kher, who plans to start an orphanage, says, “It is time to look beyond personal gain and give something to society. I’ve reached a stage in my life and career where I need to look beyond my immediate gains and losses. I’ve always been a socially concerned individual. Now it’s time to take those concerns to fruition and not sit around waiting for things to happen”.
Actress Sushmita Sen has come up with a social cause as she wants to join former Pakistani cricket captain Imran Khan to raise funds for his cancer hospital in Karachi. It was reported that Imran Khan personally invited her to Pakistan for the same. Another vital name that requires special mention is actress Shabana Azmi, she has almost bid good bye to films and indulge herself in social activity. She is involved in various social activities, takes part in discussion. She has supported for AIDS awareness cause. She opines on variety of issues.
When it comes to charity, Bollywood’s bad boy Salman Khan tops the list. He has showed his generosity by donating 5 lakhs towards 4 year old Sahara's leukaemia treatment. Salman has also spent quality time with twin sister who is joined. They are a veto of God, struggling for survival in such a small age.
Today, Bollywood does not limit only up to glitz and glamour. Stars are responsible towards society and depending upon their capability, they are to render their service to the nation. The social service offered by them is countable. On this 61st year of Independence, we appeal to the stars and the common men to stand up, come forward and extend your hand of generosity to the unprivileged and destitute.
