Bollywood actors who came from small screen
Now a day, most of the actors who establish their career in Bollywood are either seen to have a past presence in the modeling or the fashion industry. But, it was not the same till a decade ago. It is interesting to note that many of our famed superstars and stars have embarked on the journey of acting starting from the idiot box. Here is a look at some of the stars who came from small screen and made it big at the silver screen:
Shahrukh Khan had a prolific presence in the television shows and serials before he stepped into the world of Bollywood. His acting career in TV started with the role of Commando Abhimanyu Rai in a show called “Fauji”. Following that he appeared for another TV show named “Circus”. Before establishing himself as a star with “Deewana” he acted in many small budget movies and earned himself critical acclaim.
Smita Patil started her career on the TV with news reading. She was discovered by Shyam Benegal when she had an active news reading career and was also an accomplished photographer. She had a strong theatrical background and was an alumnus of Film and Television Institute of India, Pune. Her moment of fame came in the year 1977 when she bagged the national award for best actress for her role in the movie “Bhumika”. There was no looking back for Smita after that.
The famous comedian of Bollywood had started his TV career with the popular show "Naurangilal ke Sapne". He was discovered by Ram Gopal Verma during the shooting of the movie “Mast” in which he was given a tiny role by the director. Following that was a challenging role in “Jungle”, for which he did not disappoint RGV with his performance. Thereafter he established himself as a successful comic actor giving various hits like Garam Masala, Phir Hera Pheri and Waqt: The Race against Time.
The established star in the south and Bollywood , Madhavan too had started his acting career with TV when he acted for the show named “Banegi Apni Baat” in 1996. He also achieved popularity with the Zee TV show named “Tol mol ke bol” and the show was also successful. His career propelled high when he bagged his first Bollywood assignment in the form of “Iss Raat Ki Subah Nahin”. His most recent performance that is appreciated very much by audience is his role in the movie “3 idiots”.
