Birthday Special: Unheard story of Rekha’s personal life
Rekha who is tagged as the evergreen actress of Bollywood by her fans and media turns 59 today. She started working at the age of 13 when children of her age used to go to school. She was deprived of basic requirements of childhood. Life has taught Rekha more than she desired to learn. Name, fame and money is sufficient in her life today but still she leads a forlorn life.
She was born in Chennai to well known stars of south Indian cinema, her father Gemini Ganesan was a noted Tamil actor while her mother Pushvavali was a popular Telugu actress. Despite being born to a well famous filmy family, Rekha had to struggle for livelihood. Her father never married to her mother and he deprived her when she was born.
Rekha quit school to act in movies. She did not have any fascination for movies but financial crisis dragged her in this field of acting and it proved blessings for her.
During her struggling days, Rekha who hails from South had a tough time in Bollywood as she was naive in Hindi speaking. She had a tough time in Mumbai but she did not lose heart and went on. Recalling the tough phase, the diva said, "Bombay was like a jungle, and I had walked in unarmed. It was one of the most frightening phases of my life... I was totally ignorant of the ways of this new world. Guys did try and take advantage of my vulnerability. I did feel,"What am I doing? I should be in school, having an ice-cream, fun with my friends, why am I even forced to work, deprived of normal things that a child should be doing at my age?"
Every single day I cried, because I had to eat what I didn't like, wear crazy clothes with sequins and stuff poking into my body. Costume, jewelery would give me an absolute terrible allergy. Hair spray wouldn't go off for days even despite all my washing. I was pushed, literally dragged from one studio to another. A terrible thing to do to a 13-year-old child.
By dint of hard work and dedication, Rekha has achieved a position in Bollywood which is exceptional. Actors look upon her to be like Rekha. She has created a separate zone for her. She has many successful movies under her name.
Her married life is very tragic. In 1990, Rekha married to Delhi based industrialist Mukesh Aggarwal. A year later in 1991, he committed suicide while she was in the US. He left a suicide note behind, “Don’t Blame Anyone”. He tried to commit suicide several times.
It was also rumored that Rekha secretly married Bollywood actor Vinod Mehra but Rekha in an interview with Simi Garewal declined the rumor referring to him as a "well-wisher".
Rekha ‘s long open secret relationship with Amitabh Bachchan has been an interesting subject for the media even today.
We wish the evergreen actress a healthy and peaceful life
