Bipasha Basu to play conjoined twins in 'Alone'
The dusky Bollywood beauty Bipasha Basu is getting ready to take part in yet another horror flick. The film is inspired by the 2007 super hit Thai horror film ‘Alone’. She will be playing twin sisters in the film. Bipasha has played twin roles before in ‘Dhoom 2’ but this time it is different because the twins are conjoined at birth from the waist and have exactly opposite characters. The look of the twins will be as different as their characters and will be styled by Shyamli Arora. Despite being a horror film, the story has strong emotional undercurrents and a romantic angle, making it perfect for Indian screens. The shooting of the film will begin shortly in suburban Mumbai. Bipasha confirmed her participation in the film and said, 'It's a very challenging film because I play conjoined twins who are very similar to each other but absolutely different characters. It's emotional; the characters are complex and layered.'
The film ‘Alone’ told the story of two twin sisters joined at birth. One is soft and kind while the other is jealous and evil. After getting separated by an operation, one sister dies and returns as ghost to haunt her living sister. The film has already been remade in 2012 as the film ‘Chaarulatha’ made in both Tamil and Kannada. Popular South Indian actress Priyamani played the lead roles in that film. The film was later dubbed in Telugu and Malayalam as well. The film was a big success at the box office and was critically acclaimed as well. It has to be seen whether the Hindi adaptation repeats the same success as well.
Bipasha Basu is no stranger to the horror genre. Her 2002 film ‘Raaz’ became a blockbuster hit and revived the horror genre in Bollywood. ‘Raaz 3’ in 2012 was an even bigger hit and Bipasha’s performance was praised by critics. The film remains the highest grossing horror film in Bollywood. She did another horror flick in 2013 called ‘Aatma’ but it failed at the box office. She is also part of the 3D film ‘Creature’ directed by Vikram Bhatt which is India’s first science fiction based monster film. Bipasha will play the lead alongside Pakistani model- actor Imran Abbas Naqvi. Both Vikram and Bipasha are very excited about the project. Vikram has said, “This is more on the lines of ‘Jurassic Park’ and ‘Anaconda’. Bipasha is playing the lead in the film. I am directing it and more than this I cannot share any more details about it…”
